Chemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.Metal ion‐catalyzed Z→E isomerization of photoswitchable azobenzene glycomacrocycle: A new azobenzene‐based glycomacrocycle is capable of forming a 1:1 complex with divalent metal ions in both E‐ and Z‐isomers. The complexes undergo light‐free Z→E isomerization in a timescale spanning from seconds to weeks.

Chemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.An oxo–hydroxyl radical coupling mechanism is identified for O─O bond formation in Photosystem II within the low‐oxidation‐state paradigm. Ca‐bound W3 forms Ox in the S4 state and subsequently couples with O5. The resulting hydroperoxide intermediate provides a mechanistic explanation for the poor resolution of Ox in XFEL structures.
