Circulating tumor cell viability during and after radiotherapy mirrors treatment response in cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Radiotherapy (RT) response depends on the DNA repair capacity of tumor and host cells. We show that circulating tumor cell (CTC) counts and apoptosis rates before and after RT predict treatment response and outcome, which can be accessed via easily accessible liquid biopsy approaches. Operational Cost Minimization in AC Microgrids via Active and Reactive Power Control of BESS: A Case Study from Colombia

open access: yesApplied System Innovation
This work proposes an intelligent strategy for the coordinated management of active and reactive power in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESSs) within AC microgrids operating under both grid-connected (GCM) and islanded (IM) modes to minimize daily ...

Fundamental Framework for Technical Analysis

open access: yes, 1999
Starting from the characterization of the past time evolution of market prices in terms of two fundamental indicators, price velocity and price acceleration, we construct a general classification of the possible patterns characterizing the deviation or ...

Differential regulation of ZFAS1 splice variants by endoplasmic reticulum stress in hepatocyte cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ZFAS1 is a lncRNA promoting cell proliferation and migration, exhibiting high expression in various cancers. It is conserved, widely expressed, and produces multiple splice variants with unclear roles. We identified several splice variants in hepatocyte models, and found that inhibiting or suppressing regulators of the unfolded protein response (PERK ...

E-BLOW: E-Beam Lithography Overlapping aware Stencil Planning for MCC System [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Electron beam lithography (EBL) is a promising maskless solution for the technology beyond 14nm logic node. To overcome its throughput limitation, recently the traditional EBL system is extended into MCC system. %to further improve the throughput.

A New Method for Band-limited Imaging with Undersampled Detectors

open access: yes, 2011
Since its original use on the Hubble Deep Field, "Drizzle" has become a de facto standard for the combination of images taken by the Hubble Space Tele- scope.

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Random Spin-1 Quantum Chains

open access: yes, 1996
We study disordered spin-1 quantum chains with random exchange and biquadratic interactions using a real space renormalization group approach. We find that the dimerized phase of the pure biquadratic model is unstable and gives rise to a random singlet ...
