Decolorization of sugar syrups using commercial and sugar beet pulp based activated carbons

open access: yesBioresource Technology, 2008
Sugar syrup decolorization was studied using two commercial and eight beet pulp based activated carbons. In an attempt to relate decolorizing performances to other characteristics, surface areas, pore volumes, bulk densities and ash contents of the ...

Sugar beet pulp products for dairy cows

Animal Feed Science and Technology, 1986
In a single changeover trial, two paired groups of 21 cows were fed on grass silage, concentrates and 5 kg dry matter as unmolassed sugar beet pulp. The last named provided about one-third of total dry matter intake. Milk yield and composition were not affected by giving the pulp fresh (201 g DM kg−1) rather than dried.

Isolation and Characterization of Pectin in Sugar‐Beet Pulp

Journal of Food Science, 1988
ABSTRACT Pectin was extracted from sugar‐beet pulp by various solvent fractionation procedures. An optimal HCI‐extraction method yielded 19.53% pectin from the raw material. The HCl‐isolated pectin contained 81.8% galacturonic acid.

The composition and nutritive value of sugar beet pulp

The Journal of Agricultural Science, 1928
The object of the investigation which has been described in the present communication has been to secure information concerning the feeding value of sugar beet pulp as produced at the present time in this country. Data have been obtained respecting:(1) The composition and digestibility of wet sugar beet pulp.(2) The composition of dried sugar beet pulp

A note on dried, molassed sugar-beet pulp and unmolassed, pressed sugar-beet pulp as comparative foods for dairy cows

Animal Science, 1986
ABSTRACTSugar-beet pulp as normally produced in Great Britain contains about 400 g molasses per kg dry matter (DM). It has been demonstrated that either a reduction in the amount or even the full removal of the molasses did not affect the yield or composition of the milk of cows (e.g. Ronning and Bath, 1962; Hemingway, Parkins and Fraser, 1986).

The nutritive value of ammoniated sugar-beet pulp

The Journal of Agricultural Science, 1943
Two samples of ammoniated sugar-beet pulp and one untreated sample have been examined. One sample was ammoniated at room temperature and an increase of 1·94 % in nitrogen content obtained. The other sample ammoniated at 10 atm. and 80° C. showed an increase of 3·47 % in nitrogen content. The total nitrogen contents were 3·30 and 4·83 % respectively.

Enzymatic Hydrolysis and Fermentation of Sugar Beet Pulp

2009 Reno, Nevada, June 21 - June 24, 2009, 2009
Pressed sugar beet pulp, a byproduct of the table sugar industry, has potential as a biofuel feedstock that will benefit producers and processors in North Dakota and Minnesota. The goal of this research is to maximize ethanol titers and yields through enzymatic hydrolysis of sugar beet pulp and fermentation of the five- and six- carbon sugars ...

Co-pyrolysis of lignite and sugar beet pulp

Energy Conversion and Management, 2010
Today, worldwide studies have been undertaken on the biomass usage and co-conversion of biomass and coal to seek out alternative fuels for supplying energy in an environmental friendly way. The objective of this work is to study co-pyrolysis of lignite and sugar beet pulp in 50/50 (wt./wt.) ratio of blend pellets, to elucidate their thermal behaviour ...

Bioethanol production on sugar beet pulp

2010
The bioethanol production on sugar beet pulp (SBP) can be divided into three main steps: SBP pretreatment, fermentation and ethanol recovery. In this research, different pretreatment methods were used to hydrolyze celluloses and pectin fractions of dried sugar beet pulp into fermentable sugars.

Effects of hydrothermal pretreatment of sugar beet pulp for methane production

Bioresource Technology, 2014
The effect of Liquid Hot Water treatment conditions on the degree of sugar beet pulp (SBP) degradation was studied. The SBP was subjected to hydrothermal processing at temperatures ranging from 120 to 200 °C. The relationship between processing temperature and parameters of liquid and solid fractions of resulting hydrolysates as well as the efficiency ...
