Beets beyond sugar: Potential and limitations of sugar beet pulp as a feedstock for biorefineries
Sugar beet (SB) is a major sugar crop in the European Union and the United States, primarily cultivated for the commercial production of table sugar. Post-extraction of sucrose, the fibrous fraction which remains is called sugar beet pulp (SBP). SBP is rich in structural carbohydrates such as cellulose, hemicellulose and pectin containing glucose ...

The determination of ferulic acid in sugar beet pulp [PDF]
The content of ferulic acid in sugar beet pulp was determined by reverse phase high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) and UV/VIS-spectroscopy. The acid extracts of pectin carrying feruloyl groups were prepared for analysis. To release ferulic acid from pectin the hydrolysis in alkaline medium (pH = 12.5) was performed.

ABSTRACT Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a known risk factor for hypercalcemia in cats. Phosphate‐restricted diets have also been implicated in causing hypercalcemia, in part because phosphate restriction increases the Ca:P ratio. The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of two different therapeutic renal foods on ionized (iCa ...
