Astrocytic Ketogenesis Protects Central Nervous System Injury via CPT1A Stabilization and Epigenetic Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A distinct astrocyte subpopulation, enriched at the lesion border, drives CNS repair through enhanced ketone body metabolism. This process promotes neuronal survival and axonal sparing via CPT1A stabilization and H3K9bhb‐dependent epigenetic reprogramming, positioning astrocytic ketogenesis as a promising therapeutic target for tissue regeneration ...

Multiscale Interfacial Engineering Enables Robust Reconstituted Wood

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Conventional adhesives used in wood composites create heterogeneous interfaces that cause stress concentration under humid or aqueous conditions, thereby compromising long‐term stability. A synergistic strategy integrating interfacial reconstruction and water‐induced regeneration transforms heterogeneous interfaces into homogeneous ones with ...

Rational Surface Engineering Reduces Advanced Glycation End‐Product Adsorption and Improves Implant Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Targeted surface chemical modification prevents the accumulation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) on implant surfaces, attenuates inflammation and fibrosis, effectively restores angiogenic activity, and improves osseointegration under diabetic conditions.

Transport of Sugars

Annual Review of Biochemistry, 2015
Soluble sugars serve five main purposes in multicellular organisms: as sources of carbon skeletons, osmolytes, signals, and transient energy storage and as transport molecules. Most sugars are derived from photosynthetic organisms, particularly plants.

Yeast Sugar Transporters

Critical Reviews in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 1993
Transport of sugars is a fundamental property of all eukaryotic cells. Of particular importance is the uptake of glucose, a preferred carbon and energy source. The rate of glucose utilization in yeast is often dictated by the activity and concentration of glucose transporters in the plasma membrane.

Sugar Transport & Sugar Sensing In Grape

2009
The ripening of grape berries is accompanied by a massive accumulation of soluble sugars, and by the synthesis and accumulation of a wide range of phenolic compounds and aroma precursors. These processes play major roles in the quality of the berries and wine. Sugars are accumulated in the vacuoles of flesh (mesocarp) cells, which account for 65 to 91 %

Sugar transport in Coprinus cinereus

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 1979
Two transport systems for glucose were detected: a high affinity system with a Km of 27 muM, and a low affinity system with a Km of 3.3 mM. The high affinity system transported glucose, 2-deoxy-D-glucose (Km = 26 muM), 3-O-methylglucose (Km = 19 muM), D-glucosamine (Km = 652 muM), D-fructose (Km = 2.3 mM) and L-sorbose (Km = 2.2 mM).

Sugar transport in beef erythrocytes

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 1972
1. 1. The entry of sugar into beef erythrocytes was found to be facilitated by a saturable, passive process with unusually high affinity for d-glucose and d-3-O-methylglucose, the Michaelis constants for these two sugars being 0.09 and 0.17 mM respectively.

‘Active’ Sugar Transport In Eukaryotes

Journal of Experimental Biology, 1994
ABSTRACT Sugar transporters in prokaryotes and eukaryotes belong to a large family of membrane proteins containing 12 transmembrane alpha-helices. They are divided into two classes: one facilitative (uniporters) and the other concentrative (cotransporters or symporters).
