Integrated control of the sugarcane spotted stalk borer Chilo sacchariphagus (Lep:Pyralidae) in Reunion Island [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The spotted stalk borer, Chilo sacchariphagus Bojer, is a major pest of sugarcane in southern Asia and on islands in the southwest of the Indian Ocean. In Reunion, Mauritius and Madagascar, the borer has been a serious pest since it was introduced with ...

Optimizing Carbon Sources in Biofloc Technology for Sustainable Aquaculture: A Meta‐Analytical Review

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 6, Issue 3, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Aquaculture intensification is increasingly constrained by high water demand, nutrient‐rich effluents and disease risk, increasing interest in biofloc technology (BFT) as a waste‐recycling, low‐exchange production model. However, BFT performance depends strongly on the carbon source used to adjust the carbon‐to‐nitrogen (C/N) ratio and ...

Immune Response and Gut Microbiota Shift in the Red Palm Weevil (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus) Infected With Entomopathogenic Fungus, Beauveria bassiana, Reveal Host‐Pathogen Interactions

open access: yesArchives of Insect Biochemistry and Physiology, Volume 122, Issue 2, June 2026.
This study reveals a “Microbiota‐Immune Axis” in Beauveria bassiana‐infected larvae, where gut dysbiosis positively correlates with systemic immunity in the fat body. Meanwhile, the hindgut exhibits immune tolerance, highlighting a tissue‐specific trade‐off between combating the pathogen and preserving the gut microbiome.

Evaluation of Papaya Lines and Cultural Practices at Moloaa, Island of Kauai, Hawaii

open access: yes, 1980
The land at Moloaa Island of Kauai, Hawaii, was intensely cultivated with sugarcane or pineapples for more than 50 years. When these crops were phased out in 1973 because of insufficient returns, small farmers supported with Hawaii State funds attempted

All You Can Eat Yeast: Substituting Hexose Transporters With AtSWEET7 Alleviates Glucose Repression, Enabling Simultaneous Utilization of Sugars in Renewable Feedstocks

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, Volume 123, Issue 6, Page 1518-1530, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Yeast sugar transporters have highly evolved for preferential glucose transport, a significant roadblock for utilizing non‐glucose sugars in renewable feedstocks such as lignocellulosic biomass. To enable simultaneous transport of multiple sugars, native hexose transporters were replaced by SWEET7p from Arabidopsis thaliana in engineered ...

Lactic Acid Fermentation Improves the Bioaccessibility and Functional Quality of Reduced‐Calorie Sour Cherry Beverages During Cold Storage

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
Fermentation of reduced‐calorie sour cherry beverages with specific lactic acid bacteria reduces caloric content by up to 46% while significantly improving in vitro phenolic bioaccessibility, antioxidant capacity, and probiotic viability during 28 days of cold storage.

Functional Metagenomics Insights Into the Allium ampeloprasum Rhizosphere Microbiome Under Different Fertilization Regimes

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 3, June 2026.
Shotgun metagenomic sequencing was used to characterize the functional potential of the Allium ampeloprasum rhizosphere microbiome under chemical fertilizer (G1), biofertilizer (G2), and unfertilized (Bulk) soil (G3) management practices. This study revealed that different fertilization regimes altered microbial functional profiles.

A Complete Genome Resource and Bio‐Control Activity of Soil‐Isolated Pseudomonas citronellolis Strain M03 Against Onion‐Pathogenic Burkholderia Species

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 3, June 2026.
Pseudomonas citronellolis M03, isolated from field soil, was sequenced and its genome revealed ten biosynthetic clusters, including siderophore NRPS. Phenotypic assays showed strong antagonism against onion‐pathogenic Burkholderia spp., reducing B.

An econometric investigation of impacts of sustainable land management practices on soil carbon and yield risk: A potential for climate change mitigation [PDF]

open access: yes
We investigate the impacts of sustainable land management practices on soil carbon stocks and also impacts of soil carbon on the mean and variance of crop production using econometric tools. Using a cross-sectional plot-level dataset collected from three
