Aujeszky’s Disease in South-Italian Wild Boars (Sus scrofa): A Serological Survey

open access: yesAnimals, 2021
Aujeszky’s disease (AD, pseudorabies) is a viral disease of suids caused by Suid Herpesvirus 1 (SHV-1) also referred as Aujeszky’s disease virus (ADV) or Pseudorabies virus (ADV).

PCR and peptide based PCMV detection in pig – development and application of a combined testing procedure differentiating newly from latent infected pigs

open access: yesXenotransplantation, Volume 30, Issue 4, July/August 2023., 2023
Abstract Porcine cytomegalovirus (PCMV) is widely distributed in pigs and difficult to detect due to latency. PCMV infection of source pigs was associated with early graft failure after cardiac and renal xenotransplantation into nonhuman primates. Importantly, PCMV infection of the first genetically modified pig heart into a human may have contributed ...

Detection of Pseudorabies in Dogs in Slovenia between 2006 and 2020: From Clinical and Diagnostic Features to Molecular Epidemiology

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
Pseudorabies (PR) is one of the most economically important diseases in domestic pigs. Since 2010, Slovenia has been free of PR in the domestic pig population, but the disease is endemic in the wild boar population, which can pose a real threat to domestic pigs and other animal species, including dogs.

Molecular detection of two new putative species of gammaherpesvirus in petaurid possums

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, Volume 100, Issue 11, Page 562-565, November 2022., 2022
A molecular survey of herpesviruses in Australian native mammals was conducted, spanning 260 individuals from 27 species. Among the herpesviruses detected, a putative new gammaherpesvirus species was detected in the yellow‐bellied glider (Petaurus australis), and another in the critically endangered Leadbeater's possum (Gymnobelideus leadbeateri).

Porcine cytomegalovirus/porcine roseolovirus (PCMV/PRV): A threat for xenotransplantation?

open access: yesXenotransplantation, Volume 29, Issue 5, September/October 2022., 2022
Abstract The potential for a donor‐derived transmission of porcine cytomegalovirus/porcine roseolovirus (PCMV/PRV) to the recipient has been recognized since pigs were considered candidate donors for xenotransplantation. This review gives a short description of the viral properties and summarizes the current evidence of the effects of PCMV/PRV ...

The antiviral and immunomodulatory activities of propolis: An update and future perspectives for respiratory diseases

open access: yesMedicinal Research Reviews, Volume 42, Issue 2, Page 897-945, March 2022., 2022
Abstract Propolis is a complex natural product that possesses antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, immunomodulatory, antibacterial, and antiviral properties mainly attributed to the high content in flavonoids, phenolic acids, and their derivatives. The chemical composition of propolis is multifarious, as it depends on the botanical sources from which ...

Canine parvovirus and pseudorabies virus coinfection as a cause of death in a wolf (Canis lupus) from southern Italy

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, 2020
Pseudorabies virus (PRV) or suid herpesvirus 1 (SHV‐1) is the causative agent of Aujeszky's disease, a highly contagious viral infection which causes neurological fatal illness in mammals other than suids.

The Attenuated Pseudorabies Virus Vaccine Strain Bartha K61: A Brief Review on the Knowledge Gathered during 60 Years of Research

open access: yesPathogens, 2020
Pseudorabies virus (PRV) is a member of the alphaherpesvirus subfamily of the herpesviruses and is the causative agent of Aujeszky’s disease in pigs, causing respiratory, neurological, and reproductive symptoms. Given the heavy economic losses associated
