Heterogeneity in the Global Practice of Central Nervous System Staging in Pediatric Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Central nervous system (CNS) involvement in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is assessed by cell counting and cytomorphology from cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and is used for treatment stratification worldwide. The ratio of “CNS2” patients in clinical trials ranges from 3% to 40%, with unclear prognostic significance ...

A Method to Evaluate the Suitability of Requirements Specifications for Offshore Projects [PDF]

open access: yesBusiness & Information Systems Engineering, 2010
Today, even the development of business information systems is subject to the global offshoring trend. With the division of development work in an inter-organizational and intercultural context, requirements specifications become the central means to communicate the development scope as explicitly as possible.

Evaluating the suitability of server network cards for software routers [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Workshop on Programmable Routers for Extensible Services of Tomorrow, 2010
The advent of multicore CPUs has led to renewed interest in software routers built from commodity PC hardware[6, 5, 8, 7, 3, 4]. The typical approach to scaling network processing in these systems is to distribute packets, or rather flows of packets, across multiple cores that process them in parallel.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

On the Suitability of Programming Tasks for Automated Evaluation

open access: yesInformatics in Education, 2006
For many programming tasks we would be glad to have some kind of automatic evaluation process. As an example, most of the programming contests use an automatic evaluation of the contestants' submissions. While this approach is clearly highly efficient, it also has some drawbacks.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

An Evaluation of Suitable Functions for the Insulin Standard Curve [PDF]

open access: yescclm, 1981
The insulin radioimmunoassay technique used for human insulin has been modified for measuring rabbit insulin (i) at lower concentrations of insulin in plasma, and (ii) more precisely. Eleven algebraic functions were fitted in turn to fifty-three data sets. The goodness-of-fit was assessed in each case. It was concluded that a quadratic equation was the
