Visualization of Sulfane Sulfur in Plants with a Near-Infrared Fluorescent Probe
ACS Sensors, 2019Sulfane sulfur species are an important type of reactive sulfur species. These compounds have unique reactivity to attach reversibly to other sulfur atoms and exhibit regulatory effects in diverse biological systems. Recent studies have suggested that sulfane sulfurs are involved in signal transduction processes of hydrogen sulfide (H2S).

AbstractThe sulfane sulfur pool, comprised of persulfide (RS‐SH) and polysulfide (RS‐SnH) derived from hydrogen sulfide (H2S), has emerged as a major player in redox biochemistry. Mitochondria, besides energy generation, serve as significant cellular redox hubs, mediate stress response and cellular health.

Biological actions of lipoic acid associated with sulfane sulfur metabolism.
Pharmacological reports : PR, 2009This work aimed to investigate the effect of lipoic acid (LA) on sulfane sulfur (S(*)) level and rhodanese activity in rat tissues. In vitro studies conduced so far have indicated that dihydrolipoic acid serves as an S(*) acceptor in the rhodanese-catalyzed S(*) transfer.
