SULFANILAMIDE

Archives of Internal Medicine, 1939
In previous studies of the streptococcidal power of whole blood in vitro, it was ascertained that the organisms were killed by intracellular digestion following phagocytosis. In order to render phagocytosis effective, it was necessary to have specific antibody present in the plasma. Plasma without leukocytes was incapable of killing organisms.

Solubility advantage of sulfanilamide and sulfacetamide in natural deep eutectic systems: experimental and theoretical investigations

Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy, 2019
Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the possibility of using natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES) as solvation media for enhancement of solubility of sulfonamides, as well as gaining some thermodynamic characteristics of the analyzed ...

Elixir Sulfanilamide

2022
Abstract In the fall of 1937, patients began to die soon after consuming a new therapy called the Elixir Sulfanilamide. In response, the fledgling agency known as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) jumped into action. The agency recovered the remaining 700 bottles and saved the lives of an estimated 4,000 Americans. The FDA also

Polymorphism in Sulfanilamide-d4

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1970
Thermal behaviors of four crystalline forms of sulfanilamide and of sulfanilamide-d4 have been examined. Heats of transition and fusion have been determined. The deuterated modifications exhibit smaller heats of transition and heats of fusion than the corresponding undeuterated forms. There is, however, a difference in the magnitude of this decrease in

SULFANILAMIDE ERUPTION

American Journal of Diseases of Children, 1938
Sulfanilamide (para-aminobenzenesulfonamide base) and its related compounds have assumed a prominent position in the medical armamentarium during the past two years. Providing as they do a specific and apparently effective form of treatment for a group of conditions previously difficult of therapeutic approach, it is small wonder that the drugs have ...
