Action of polystyrene nanoparticles of different sizes on lysosomal function and integrity
Background Data from environmental exposure to nanoparticles (NPs) suggest that chronic exposure may increase the incidence of lung, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases.

Fluorophores at the peptide C‐terminus reprogram EISA behavior in osteosarcoma cellsshifting ER vs mitochondrial targeting, altering assembly, and tuning cytotoxicity. Abstract Enzyme‐instructed self‐assembly (EISA) of peptides offers a versatile strategy for developing intracellular nanomedicines, yet the role of C‐terminus fluorophores in modulating ...

Enhanced Tumorigenic Potential of Colorectal Cancer Cells by Extracellular Sulfatases
Heparan sulfate endosulfatase-1 and -2 (SULF1 and SULF2) are two important extracellular 6-O-endosulfatases that remove 6-O sulfate groups of N-glucosamine along heparan sulfate (HS) proteoglycan chains often found in the extracellular matrix.

The multifaceted roles of perlecan in fibrosis [PDF]
Perlecan, or heparan sulfate proteoglycan 2 (HSPG2), is a ubiquitous heparan sulfate proteoglycan that has major roles in tissue and organ development and wound healing by orchestrating the binding and signaling of mitogens and morphogens to cells in a ...

Iduronate 2‐sulfatase (IDS; purple) is expressed as a precursor protein that goes through multiple steps of maturation, modification, and trafficking to become an active lysosomal enzyme that degrades glycosaminoglycans. Our study shows that the transmembrane ubiquitin ligases RNF13 (orange) and RNF167 (pink) heterodimerize, affecting IDS intracellular

Microbial alkyl- and aryl-sulfatases: mechanism, occurrence, screening and stereoselectivities
This review gives an overview on the occurrence of sulfatases in Prokaryota, Eukaryota and Archaea. The mechanism of enzymes acting with retention or inversion of configuration during sulfate ester hydrolysis is discussed taking two complementary ...

ABSTRACT Seed defence priming is emerging as a novel, cost‐efficient and environmentally safe tool for pest management. It has been proposed as a means to uncouple the defence‐growth trade‐off in plants by enhancing defence responses with minimal fitness costs, but the mechanisms underlying this role remain elusive.

Nutrient availability affects carbon turnover and microbial physiology differently in topsoil and subsoil under a temperate grassland [PDF]
Increasing subsoil organic carbon inputs could potentially mitigate climate change by sequestering atmospheric CO2. Yet, microbial turnover and stabilization of labile carbon in subsoils are regulated by complex mechanisms including the availability of ...
