PM1 Chemical Characterization during the ACU15 Campaign, South of Mexico City

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2018
The “Aerosoles en Ciudad Universitaria 2015” (ACU15) campaign was an intensive experiment measuring chemical and optical properties of aerosols in the winter of 2015, from 19 January to 19 March on a site in the south of Mexico City. The mass

3,5-Lutidine pentaaqua sulfate complexes of first-row transition metals: [M(3,5-lutidine)(H2O)5]SO4, with M = Mn, Co, Ni, and Zn

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E: Crystallographic Communications, 2023
The reactions of MnSO4·H2O, CoSO4·7H2O, NiSO4·6H2O and ZnSO4·7H2O with 3,5-lutidine (3,5-dimethylpyridine) yield crystals of pentaaqua(3,5-dimethylpyridine-κN)manganese(II) sulfate, [Mn(C7H9N)(H2O)5]SO4, (1), pentaaqua(3,5-dimethylpyridine-κN)cobalt(II ...

Loss of proton‐sensing GPR4 reduces tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
G protein‐coupled receptor 4 (GPR4) is a pH‐sensing receptor activated by acidic pH. GPR4 expression is increased in patients with inflammatory bowel disease who are at high risk of developing colorectal cancer. In mouse models, loss of GPR4 attenuated tumor progression. This correlated with increased IL2 and natural killer cell activity.

Carbon and sulfur cycling below the chemocline in a meromictic lake and the identification of a novel taxonomic lineage in the FCB superphylum, Candidatus Aegiribacteria

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2016
Mahoney Lake in British Columbia is an extreme meromictic system with unusually high levels of sulfate and sulfide present in the water column. As is common in strongly stratified lakes, Mahoney Lake hosts a dense, sulfide-oxidizing phototrophic ...

Keratan sulfate, a complex glycosaminoglycan with unique functional capability

open access: yesGlycobiology, 2018
From an evolutionary perspective keratan sulfate (KS) is the newest glycosaminoglycan (GAG) but the least understood. KS is a sophisticated molecule with a diverse structure, and unique functional roles continue to be uncovered for this GAG.

Loss of primary cilia promotes EphA2‐mediated endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in the ovarian tumor microenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of primary cilia in endothelial cells promotes EndMT and vascular abnormalities in the ovarian tumor microenvironment through EphA2 activation. Using human samples, in vitro models, and endothelial‐specific Kif3a‐knockout mice, we show that primary cilia loss drives the acquisition of cancer‐associated fibroblast‐like phenotypes, thereby ...

Limited impact of sulfate-driven chemistry on black carbon aerosol aging in power plant plumes

open access: yesAIMS Environmental Science, 2018
The aging of refractory black carbon (rBC) aerosol by sulfate-driven chemistry has been constrained in coal-fired power-plant plumes using the NOAA WP-3D research aircraft during the Southern Nexus (SENEX) study, which took place in the Southeastern US ...

Origins of Sulfate in Groundwater and Surface Water of the Rio Grande Floodplain, Texas, USA and Chihuahua, Mexico

open access: yesHydrology, 2022
Sulfate isotopes (δ34S, δ18OSO4) interpreted in conjunction with sulfate concentrations show that sulfate of both agricultural and geologic sources is present in groundwater and surface water in the Rio Grande flood plain within the Hueco Bolsón.

A nucleotide‐independent, pan‐RAS‐targeted DARPin elicits anti‐tumor activity in a multimodal manner

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We report a Designed Ankyrin Repeat Protein that binds and inhibits RAS proteins, which serve as central cell signaling hubs and are essential for the progression of many cancers. Its unique feature is that it does not discriminate between different RAS isoforms or mutations and is capable of binding to RAS in both its active (GTP‐bound) and inactive ...
