Utilizing metakaolin and siliceous waste from the alum industry to create geopolymer adsorbent for the removal of certain heavy metals

open access: yesScientific Reports
A geopolymer (GP) from Partially Dealuminated Kaolin (PDK) was synthesized. PDK is a solid waste of alum industry, it was produced in a big quantity, which need careful management to be recycled for protection of the environment against pollution ...

Structural Sampling of Glycan Interaction Profiles Reveals Mucosal Receptors for Fimbrial Adhesins of Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli

open access: yesBiology, 2013
Fimbriae are long, proteinaceous adhesion organelles expressed on the bacterial envelope, evolutionarily adapted by Escherichia coli strains for the colonization of epithelial linings. Using glycan arrays of the Consortium for Functional Glycomics (CFG),

Sulfate-Promoted Higher Alcohol Synthesis from CO2 Hydrogenation

open access: yes, 2022
Sulfur is usually regarded as a catalyst poison for many industrial reactions. Since an increasing number of studies have also reported that sulfate can serve as a promoter for certain reactions, the effects of sulfate on catalysts should be critically ...

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Molecular characterization of mesophilic and thermophilic sulfate reducing microbial communities in expanded granular sludge bed (EGSB) reactors

open access: yes, 2008
The microbial communities established in mesophilic and thermophilic expanded granular sludge bed reactors operated with sulfate as the electron acceptor were analyzed using 16S rRNA targeted molecular methods, including denaturing gradient gel ...

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

Removal of methylene blue from synthetic industrial wastewater by using geopolymer prepared from partially dealuminated metakaolin

open access: yesScientific Reports
Industrial wastewater frequently contains a huge of pollutants, such as heavy metals, dyes, and organic compounds, leading to considerable environmental discharge. Methylene Blue (MB), a cationic dye extensively utilized in the textile and pharmaceutical
