Specificity and Regulation of Renal Sulfate Transporters
Annual Review of Physiology, 2007Sulfate is essential for normal cellular function. The kidney plays a major role in sulfate homeostasis. Sulfate is freely filtered and then undergoes net reabsorption in the proximal tubule. The apical membrane Na+/sulfate cotransporter NaS1 (SLC13A1) has a major role in mediating proximal tubule sulfate reabsorption, as demonstrated by the findings ...

Sulfate transport in Aspergillus nidulans: A novel gene encoding alternative sulfate transporter
Fungal Genetics and Biology, 2007In Aspergillus nidulans sulfate is taken up by sulfate permease encoded by the sB gene. A unique tight auxotrophic mutant with an impaired promoter region of the sulfate permease gene, sB1(pr), was isolated. Three suppressor genes were cloned by complementation of this mutation.

Sulfate transport mechanisms in epithelial systems
Journal of Experimental Zoology, 2001A novel invertebrate gastrointestinal transport mechanism has been shown to couple chloride-sulfate exchange in an electrogenic fashion. In the lobster, Homarus americanus, the hepatopancreas, or digestive gland, exists as an outpocketing of the digestive tract, representing a single cell layer separating the gut lumen and an open circulatory system ...

Renal tubular transport of inorganic sulfate
American Journal of Physiology-Legacy Content, 1961The urinary excretion of radiosulfate by the dog was investigated after a rapid injection into one renal artery. Radiosulfate appeared in the urine before simultaneously injected creatinine. After the plasma sulfate concentration had been elevated, the precession of sulfate over creatinine disappeared.

Microneedle-Assisted Percutaneous Transport of Magnesium Sulfate
Current Drug Delivery, 2020Objective: In vitro diffusion experiments were performed to assess the permeation of magnesium sulfate across pig skin. Method: The mean thickness of the dermatomed porcine skin was 648 ± 12 µm. Magnesium concentration was measured using inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy.
