Sulfate transport by SLC26 transporters.

Novartis Foundation symposium, 2007
Sulfate is the fourth most abundant anion in human plasma that is essential for numerous physiological functions, including biotransformation of xenobiotics, steroids, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), adrenergic stimulants/blockers and analgesics.

Bacterial transporters for sulfate and organosulfur compounds

Research in Microbiology, 2001
Microorganisms require sulfur for growth, and obtain it either from inorganic sulfate or from organosulfur compounds such as sulfonates, sulfate esters, or sulfur-containing amino acids. Transport of sulfate into the cell is catalyzed either by ATP binding cassette (ABC)-type transporters (SulT family) or by major facilitator superfamily-type ...

Sulfate transport in human lung fibroblasts (IMR‐90)

Journal of Cellular Physiology, 1985
AbstractSulfate transport in a fibroblast cell line derived from human lung (IMR‐90) occurred mainly via high‐ and low‐affinity, SITS‐sensitive pathways and to a lesser extent by an SITS‐insensitive mechanism. In low‐ionic‐strength media (sucrose substituted for salts) the apparent Km of the carrier‐mediated sulfate influx was 1 mM.

Characterization of sulfate transport in Desulfovibrio desulfuricans

Archives of Microbiology, 1989
Uptake of 35S-labelled sulfate was studied with a new isolate of Desulfovibrio desulfuricans, strain CSN. Micromolar additions of sulfate (1-10 microM or nmol/mg protein) to cell suspensions incubated in 150 mM KCl at -1 degrees C were almost completely taken up and accumulated about 5,000-fold.

Getting the most sulfate from soil: Regulation of sulfate uptake transporters in Arabidopsis

Journal of Plant Physiology, 2009
Sulfur (S) is an essential macronutrient for all living organisms. Plants require large amounts of sulfate for growth and development, and this serves as a major entry point of sulfate into the food web. Plants acquire S in its ionic form from the soil; they have evolved tightly controlled mechanisms for the regulation of sulfate uptake in response to ...
