Structural and functional insights into sulfated galactans: a systematic review
Glycoconjugate Journal, 2009Sulfated galactans (SGs) are highly anionic marine galactose-composed homopolysaccharides. Although their structures vary among species, their main features are conserved among phyla. Green algal SGs are quite heterogeneous, although preponderantly composed of 3-beta-D-Galp units.

The sulfated galactans (SG) of mass 16 kDa was purified from S.hypnoides through anion exchange and gel permeation chromatography. The biochemical properties of SG including carbohydrate, 3,6 anhydrogalactose, sulfate, uronic acid, moisture, ash, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen contents were estimated.
