Synthesis and properties of poly(ether ether ketone)-poly(ether sulfone) block copolymers

Polymer, 1994
Two series of block copolymers composed of poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK) and poly(ether sulfone) (PES) components were prepared from the corresponding oligomers via a nucleophilic aromatic substitution reaction. In the first series of block copolymers, the Mn of the PEEK segment was fixed at 10 000, while the Mns of the PES segments ranged from 250 ...

Synthesis of copolymers of poly(ether sulfone ether ketone ketone) and poly(ether ketone diphenyl ketone ether ketone ketone) by electrophilic Friedel–Crafts solution polycondensation

Polymers for Advanced Technologies, 2011
AbstractA new monomer, 4,4′‐bis(4‐phenoxybenzoyl)diphenyl(BPOBDP), was synthesized via a two‐step synthetic procedure. A series of novel poly(ether sulfone ether ketone ketone)/poly(ether ketone diphenyl ketone ether ketone ketone) copolymers were prepared by electrophilic Friedel–Crafts solution copolycondensation of isophthaloyl chloride (IPC) with a

Proton-exchange Sulfonated Poly(ether ether ketone)/Sulfonated Phenolphthalein Poly(ether sulfone) Blend Membranes in DMFCs

Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2009
Abstract A sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) (SPEEK) membrane with fairly high degree of sulfonation (DS) swells excessively and even dissolves at high temperature. To solve these problems, sulfonated phenolphthalein poly(ether sulfone) (SPES-C, DS53.7%) is blended with the SPEEK matrix (DS55.1%, 61.7%) to prepare SPEEK/SPES-C blend membrane.

Synthesis and properties of novel copolymers of poly(ether ketone biphenyl ketone ether ketone ketone) and poly(ether ketone sulfone amide)

Journal of Polymer Research, 2014
The monomer containing sulfone and amide linkages, namely N,N'-bis(4-phenoxybenzoyl)-4,4'-diaminodiphenyl sulfone (BPBDAS), was conveniently prepared by the condensation of 4,4′-diaminodiphenyl sulfone with 4-phenoxybenzoyl chloride in N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc).

Development of Sulfonated Poly(ether-ether ketone)s for PEMFC and DMFC

2008
During the last two decades, extensive efforts have been made to develop alternative hydrocarbon-based polymer electrolyte membranes to overcome the drawbacks of the current widely used perfluorosulfonic acid Nafion. This chapter presents an overview of the synthesis, chemical properties, and polymer electrolyte fuel cell applications of new proton ...

State of the water in crosslinked sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone)

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2012
AbstractWe investigated the material properties of different crosslinked sulfonated poly(aryl ether ketone) membranes, focusing on the effect of the degree of sulfonation and crosslinking density on the water uptake, the physical state of the water, and the pore size distribution within the membranes.

Improved interfacial adhesion in carbon fiber/poly (ether ether ketone) composites with the sulfonated poly (ether ether ketone) sizing treatment

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2021
AbstractA water‐soluble sulfonated poly (ether ether ketone) (SPEEK) sizing agent is prepared and applied to improve the interfacial adhesion of carbon fiber/poly (ether ether ketone) (CF/PEEK) composites. The surface morphology, surface roughness, surface chemistries, and surface free energy of SPEEK sized CF are obtained to understand the sizing ...

Modification of sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) with phenolic resin

Polymers for Advanced Technologies, 2007
AbstractSoluble phenol formaldehyde resin containing hydroxymethyl groups has been used to modify sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) (SPEEK). Modification has been carried out with films containing both the polymers and using dimethyl formamide (DMF) as casting solvent at various temperatures under reduced pressure. Associated solvent and the hydrogen‐

Sodium sulfonate-functionalized poly(ether ether ketone)s

Macromolecular Chemistry and Physics, 1998
A new monomer, sodium 5,5'-carbonylbis(2-fluorobenzenesulfonate) (1), was synthesized by sulfonation of 4,4'-difluorobenzophenone (2) with fuming sulfuric acid. Poly(ether ether ketone)s containing sodium sulfonate groups were synthesized directly via aromatic nucleophilic substitution from the sodium sulfonate-functionalized monomer 1 and Bisphenol A (

Rheology of concentrated sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) solutions

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2013
ABSTRACTSulfonated polyether ether ketone (SPEEK), an ionic polymer, has been shown to be a potential candidate for fuel cell electrolyte as a proton exchange membrane. Rheological behavior of SPEEK solutions is of great interest to understand the molecular associations as well as due to implications in membrane processing.
