Preparation of 5-Bromo-2-naphthol: The Use of a Sulfonic Acid as a Protecting and Activating Group
The preparation of 5-bromo-2-naphthol (4) in three steps from 5-amino-2-naphthol (1) is described. A sulfonic acid group is introduced at the 1-position as an activating and protecting group for the Sandmeyer reaction.

Abstract A recent article in this journal by Wu et al presented a comprehensive model for the maturation of paracetamol clearance from birth to adulthood using pooled plasma and urinary data of the parent drug and its metabolites from 298 subjects. The modeling showed that the oxidative bioactivation to hepatotoxic metabolite N‐acetyl‐p‐benzoquinone ...

The barley–malt–beer chain: A process and food safety approach
Abstract This review addresses the current state of knowledge on the barley–malt–beer chain and its main physical, chemical, and microbiological contaminants, with particular emphasis on spoilage microorganisms and their toxic metabolites. The barley–malt–beer production chain represents a mature and globally relevant agro‐industrial sector that ...

Sulfonated, Disulfide‐Bridged Polymer Networks for Atmospheric Water Harvesting
Atmospheric water harvesting is a promising solution to the water crisis. Here, disulfide‐containing hyper‐crosslinked‐style polymers are prepared by combined Friedel–Crafts alkylation and thiol self‐condensation. Exhibiting exceptional uptake capacities, the polymers demonstrate dynamic bonding behavior.

Phase behavior and nanomechanical mapping of block ionomer complexes
Block ionomer complexes SSEBS-c-PCL were prepared, as a consequence of proton transfer from the sulfonic acid of sulfonated polystyrene-block- poly(ethylene-ran-butylene)-block-polystyrene (SSEBS) to the tertiary amine of a tertiary amine terminated poly(

ABSTRACT Background and Aims Loss‐of‐function mutations in bile acid (BA)‐activated farnesoid x receptor (FXR/NR1H4) cause severe neonatal liver pathology in humans, earlier referred to as progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis type 5 (PFIC5). However, Fxr‐deficient mice do not develop early‐onset liver disease, possibly due to the predominance ...

Processing and release of endogenous immunogenic peptide signals
SUMMARY In both animals and plants, small secreted peptides known as cytokines and phytocytokines mediate local and systemic communication during immune and stress responses. These signaling molecules are typically synthesized as inactive precursors that require proteolytic processing to become active.
