Structures and functions of mitochondrial ABC transporters [PDF]
A small number of physiologically important ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters are found in mitochondria. Most are half transporters of the B group forming homodimers and their topology suggests they function as exporters.

DNA strands are employed both as dynamic linkers and nanoscale templates for the integration of Ag2S nanoparticles on MoS2, which in turn imparted photothermal responsiveness; this feature permits the selective cargo (fluorophore, quantum dots or an enzyme) release from the MoS2 surface in response to local heat induced by light irradiation.

Sulfur amino acid utilization by growing steers
Studies were conducted to quantify sulfur amino acid requirements of growing steers. In Exp. 1, six steers (160 kg) were used to determine the methionine requirement in the presence of excess L-Cys. Treatments were abomasal infusion of water only or water plus 2, 4, 6, 8, or 10g/d of L-Met.

Mesoporous Carbon Thin Films with Large Mesopores as Model Material for Electrochemical Applications
Mesoporous carbon thin films possessing 70 nm mesopores are prepared on titanium substrates by soft templating of resol resins with a self‐synthesized poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐poly(hexyl acrylate) block copolymer. A strategy to avoid corrosion of the metal substrate is presented, and the films are extensively characterized in terms of morphology ...

The values of molecular polarizabilities and softnesses of the twenty amino acids were computed ab initio (MP2). By using the iterative Hirshfeld scheme to partition the molecular electronic properties, we demonstrate that the values of the softness of ...

Fluorescent nanodiamonds (fNDs) have emerged as an invaluable quantum sensing platform for biological and biochemical systems. This paper investigates the influence of common surface functionalization strategies for bioconjugation on the quantum properties of nitrogen vacancy (NV) centers in nanodiamonds.

Hsc66 substrate specificity is directed toward a discrete region of the iron-sulfur cluster template protein IscU [PDF]
Hsc66 and Hsc20 comprise a specialized chaperone system important for the assembly of iron-sulfur clusters in Escherchia coli. Only a single substrate, the Fe/S template protein IscU, has been identified for the Hsc66/Hsc20 system, but the mechanism by ...

Sulfur containing amino acids and human disease
Sulfur containing amino acids contribute substantially to the maintenance and integrity of cellular systems by influencing cellular redox state and cellular capacity to detoxify toxic compounds, free radicals and reactive oxygen species. Methionine and cysteine are the two primary sulfur-containing amino acids in mammals.
