Different components of air pollutants and neurological disorders

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health, 2022
The harmful effects of air pollution can cause various diseases. Most research on the hazards of air pollution focuses on lung and cardiovascular diseases. In contrast, the impact of air pollution on neurological disorders is not widely recognized.

From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

Biochemistry of Dissimilatory Sulfur Oxidation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
The long term goals of this research were to define the substrate oxidation pathways, the electron transport mechanisms, and the modes of energy conservation employed during the dissimilatory oxidation of sulfur practiced by various species of the thiobacilli. Specific adhesion of the thiobacilli to elemental sulfur was studied by electrical impedance,

Air Pollution and the Risk and Progression of Multiple Sclerosis: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Air pollution has been linked to several neurological conditions, including stroke and neurodegenerative diseases. Evidence regarding its association with multiple sclerosis (MS) remains conflicting, limited by small sample sizes. Methods PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Cochrane controlled register of trials (CENTRAL) were searched on ...

Understanding the Stochastic Nature of Process Parameter Development of Blown Powder Laser Beam Directed Energy Deposition Additive Manufacturing of Pure Molybdenum

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Identified through the use of statistical design of experiments and metallographic investigation, this study exposes the stochastic origins of intergranular cracks in blown powder laser beam directed energy deposition additive manufacturing of pure molybdenum. It further demonstrates a successful crack mitigation approach with direct correlation to the

Optimization of the Production of Rubber Compounds Using Mathematical Models

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Rubber compounds were mixed in a batch internal mixer, and symbolic regression was used to derive mathematical models linking recipe and process parameters to ram path, torque, and mixing quality (incorporation, dispersion, distribution). Subsequent optimization with evolutionary algorithms identified operating conditions that reduce specific energy ...

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.
