Wear of iron and nickel in corrosive liquid environments [PDF]

open access: yes
Friction and wear behavior of Fe and Ni sliding on aluminum oxide in aerated sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid were investigated. The results show that the concentration of acid is an important factor in controlling the metal loss caused by wear ...

Elucidating the Role of Surface Ligands on the Oxidative Etching of Au Bipyramids During Photothermia Using Liquid Cell Transmission Electron Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Gold bipyramids can act as efficient plasmonic nanoheaters, but they often reshape during laser heating. This study shows that oxygen nanobubbles drive oxidative etching and that surface ligands control stability. CTAB‐ and citrate‐coated particles blunt and lose optical performance, whereas polystyrene sulfonate preserves shape and heating by ...

Temperature‐Robust Interphase Enables Carboxylate‐Ester Electrolyte for Stabilizing High‐Voltage Sodium Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A synergistic electrolyte engineering strategy of employing ethyl acetate (EA) with vinylene carbonate (VC) as multifunctional additives is initially pioneered, making various as‐prepared high‐voltage wide‐temperature sodium batteries work well via the formation of a gradient and temperature‐robust interphase.

Investigation of Halogen Substitution Effects in π‐Conjugated Organic Ligands of Chiral Hybrid Perovskites on Their Chiroptical Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The role of novel thiophene‐based ligands with halogen substitutions in enhancing the chiroptical and optoelectronic properties of 2D chiral HOIPs has been investigated. By tailoring ligand design, enhanced CD and CPL properties are achieved, with improved CPL discrimination in photodetectors.

Atomic Layer Deposition in Transistors and Monolithic 3D Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Transistors are fundamental building blocks of modern electronics. This review summarizes recent progress in atomic layer deposition (ALD) for the synthesis of two‐dimensional (2D) metal oxides and transition‐metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), with particular emphasis on their enabling role in monolithic three‐dimensional (M3D) integration for next ...

Preparation of Activated Carbon from Maize Stems by Sulfuric Acids Activation and Their Application in Copper (II) Ion Sorption

open access: yesMakara Seri Sains, 2010
Activated carbons were prepared from maize (Zea mays L.) stems by sulfuric acids activation or chemical methods. The dry maize stems are usually used as low-value energy resources in many countries, burned in the field, or discarded, which are ...

Balancing Electrons to Break the Activity‐Selectivity Trade‐Off in H2O2 Electrosynthesis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Carrier‐concentration balancing in CuS is achieved by coupling cobalt dopants with cobalt vacancies, converting CuS from p‐ to n‐type to accelerate 2e− ORR while withdrawing excess carriers to optimize *OOH binding for H2O2 desorption. The catalyst reaches 8.14 mol g−1 h−1 with >84% selectivity in 1.0 M KOH and drives robust electro‐Fenton dye ...

Analysis and use of the fat of residues in slaughterhouses of chickens

open access: yesSemina: Ciências Exatas e Tecnológicas, 2003
Analyses of fat samples of chickens from slaughterhouses were carried out. The products of the methanolysis of the fat in sulfuric acid showed, through coupled gaseous chromatography with mass spectrometer, the presence of unsaturated fat acids and a ...
