The enzymatic sulphation of heparan sulphate by hen's uterus

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1973
Abstract A sulphotransferase preparation from hen's uterus catalysed the transfer of sulphate from adenosine 3′-phosphate 5′-sulphatophosphate to N-desulphated heparan sulphate, heparan sulphate, N-desulphated heparin and dermatan sulphate. Heparin, chondroitin sulphate and hyaluronic acid were inactive as substrates for the enzyme.

Sulphate release from keratan sulphate and heparan sulphate by bovine N-acetylglucosamine-6-sulphate sulphatase

Glycobiology, 1995
The functions of sulphated monosaccharides within glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) and glycoproteins are being studied intensely, but progress is hindered by an inability to selectively desulphate glycoconjugates. We recently identified an N-acetylglucosamine-6-sulphate sulphatase (NG6SS) from bovine kidney that can remove sulphate from N-acetylglucosamine-6 ...

Heparan sulphate

The International Journal of Biochemistry & Cell Biology, 1997
Heparan sulphates, the N-sulphated polysaccharides components of proteoglycans, are common constituents of cell surfaces and the extracellular matrix. The heparan sulphate polysaccharide chain has a unique molecular design in the which the clusters of N- and O-sulphated sugar residues, separated by regions of low sulphation, determine specific protein ...

The nature of the sulphate grouping in a rat salivary sulphated glycoprotein

Archives of Oral Biology, 1976
Abstract A 35S-labelled sulphated glycoprotein was isolated from rat whole saliva. Stability studies on the sulphate residues present in the intact glycoprotein in 0.25 M HCl gave a half-life of 71 min. Partial acid hydrolysis of the 35S-labelled glycoprotein in 0.1 M HCl for 90 min at 100 °C liberated a radioactive component which was free from ...
