Summary Discovering functional and evolutionary interdependencies of hydraulic traits and crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) is crucial to understand CAM phenotype diversity and convergence. In complex traits such as CAM, the co‐option of associated traits strongly impacts the evolutionary outcome.

Abstract Introduction Recreational off‐highway vehicle (OHV) use can cause significant disturbance to natural areas. The use of local balsam poplar (Populus balsamifera L.) cuttings may be a solution to supply native plant material for the restoration of flood‐prone and riparian environments.

Restoring soil and tree nutrition through non‐industrial wood ash additions to sugarbushes
Nutrient losses from forest soils caused by decades of acid deposition have affected tree growth and depleted soils of essential nutrients in eastern North America. Non‐industrial wood ash (NIWA) is rich in macronutrients and may be a potential remediation strategy to restore lost nutrients as a forest soil amendment.

A New Look at the Easy-Hard-Easy Pattern of Combinatorial Search Difficulty
The easy-hard-easy pattern in the difficulty of combinatorial search problems as constraints are added has been explained as due to a competition between the decrease in number of solutions and increased pruning.

Pleiotropic mutation in a tendril TCP gene underlies the yield‐enhancing multiple‐flowering trait in summer squash (Cucurbita pepo) [PDF]
SUMMARY Crop yield is a focal point in plant breeding. Regulation of lateral budding through apical dominance was a central target of crop domestication, directly affecting crop production. The young fruits of Cucurbita pepo, summer squash, are produced on plants characterized by apical dominance and differentiation of a single flower bud per leaf axil.
