Enzymatic saccharification of alkali-treated sunflower hulls

Bioresource Technology, 1994
Abstract The treatment with NaOH and subsequent enzymatic hydrolysis of sunflower hulls was evaluated. Maximum saccharification values for sunflower hulls were reached after treatments with 0·5% alkali solutions for 1·5 h at 121°C using a solid: liquid ratio of 0·1 g/ml.

The Liquefaction of Sunflower Seed Hulls

Energy Sources, Part A: Recovery, Utilization, and Environmental Effects, 2013
Liquefaction of a biomass waste material, namely, sunflower seed hulls, was studied in a laboratory scale stainless-steel reactor. The key parameters investigated were temperature, cold hydrogen pressure, and tetralin to solvent mixture ratio within the ranges of 325–375°C, 10–30 atm., and 0/1–1/1, respectively.

Isolation and characterisation of hemicelluloses from sunflower hulls

Carbohydrate Research, 1993
The hemicelluloses extracted from sunflower hulls by repeated alternating oxidative and alkaline treatments were purified by precipitation with Cetavlon and then ion-exchange chromatography on DEAE-trisacryl. The resulting fractions were examined by hydrolysis, methylation, GLC-MS, and NMR spectroscopy. The hemicelluloses are of the glucuronoxylan type

Sunflower hulls as a component of feeds

Agricultural Wastes, 1984
Abstract To find an economic utilization of sunflower hulls (SFH) in the feed industry, the chemical composition, the conservability and the in vitro organic matter digestibility before and after alkali treatment were determined. In a preliminary feed trial twenty four rabbits were used to evaluate the effect of a large percentage of SFH in ...

Heat Stability of Sunflower‐Hull Anthocyanin Pigment

Journal of Food Science, 1991
ABSTRACT Anthocyanin pigment was extracted from hulls of a sunflower genotype, Neagra de Cluj, using aqueous SO 2 solutions of varying concentrations. Thermal stability of the pigment was studied between 65–95°C, and pH 1.0–5.0.

Sunflower seed meal, sunflower oil and full-fat sunflower seeds, hulls and kernels for laying hens

Animal Feed Science and Technology, 1989
Abstract White Leghorn × Australorp hens were given 4 layer diets containing 0, 5.79, 12.19 and 18.97% of undecorticated, oil-extracted sunflower seed meal (SSM) either with or without added sunflower oil (SO) and 4 other diets containing either 2.35% full-fat sunflower seeds (FSS) or 1% sunflower hulls (SH) or 1% SH + SO or 2.0% sunflower kernels ...

Extraction of Anthocyanin Pigments from Purple Sunflower Hulls

Journal of Food Science, 1996
ABSTRACT The anthocyanin pigments in hulls of purple sunflower seeds were extracted using three solvent systems, 50:1:49 ethanol‐acetic acid‐water (EAW), 0.01M acetic acid (AAc), or water containing SO 2 .
