Characterizing and assessing vision‐related quality of life among patients discontinued treatment for neovascular age‐related macular degeneration

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose This study characterized and assessed vision‐related quality of life (VRQoL) in patients with neovascular age‐related macular degeneration (nAMD) who discontinued treatment with intravitreal anti‐vascular endothelial growth factor (anti‐VEGF), comparing them to those undergoing treatment.

Calibration of Sunspot Numbers

open access: yes, 2010
Waldmeier [1971] found a very tight relationship between the F10.7 solar radio flux and the sunspot number and suggested using the flux for an objective calibration of the sunspot number. He suggested that if this relationship changed later on, the sunspot number should be re-calibrated, assuming that the calibration must have drifted with time.

Seasonal variation in the incidence of central serous chorioretinopathy: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) is a chorioretinal disease characterised by serous subretinal fluid (SRF) in the macula, resulting in sudden central vision loss. It predominantly affects working‐age adults, particularly men aged 30 to 60 years.

Solar activity prediction of sunspot numbers (verification). Predicted solar radio flux; predicted geomagnetic indices Ap and Kp [PDF]

open access: yes
Efforts to further verify a previously reported technique for predicting monthly sunspot numbers over a period of years (1979 to 1989) involved the application of the technique over the period for the maximum epoch of solar cycle 19. Results obtained are

Randomized, single‐centre, double‐blinded repeated dose investigation of safety and tolerability of ocular administrations of a novel silica eye drop product in healthy volunteers

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Managing ocular diseases often requires frequent eye drop administration, which can challenge patient compliance. A long‐acting eye drop technology using an amorphous synthetic silica composite was developed to address this. Our study aimed to assess the safety and tolerability of the Silica Eye Drop platform in healthy volunteers over

Long-term Solar Irradiance Variability: 1984-1989 Observations [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
Long-term variability in the total solar irradiance has been observed in the Earth Radiation Budget Experiment (ERBE) solar monitor measurements. The monitors have been used to measure the irradiance from the Earth Radiation Budget Satellite (ERBS) and ...

Prognostic factors of optical coherence tomography angiography in intermediate and advanced primary open‐angle glaucoma: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Conventional optical coherence tomography (OCT) has a floor effect in patients with severe visual field loss, such as seen in advanced primary open‐angle glaucoma (POAG). OCT angiography (OCTA) does not suffer from such a floor effect. However, which OCTA parameters are most useful for monitoring longitudinal progression is unclear.

Solar flare forecasting using morphological properties of sunspot groups

open access: yesJournal of Space Weather and Space Climate, 2019
We describe a new tool developed for solar flare forecasting on the base of some sunspot group properties. Assuming that the flare frequency follows the Poisson statistics, this tool uses a database containing the morphological characteristics of the ...

TWO REGIMES IN THE REGULARITY OF SUNSPOT NUMBER

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2013
Sunspot numbers WN display quasi-periodical variations that undergo regime changes. These irregularities could indicate a chaotic system and be measured by Lyapunov exponents. We define a functional λ (an "irregularity index") that is close to the (maximal) Lyapunov exponent for dynamical systems and well defined for series with a random component ...

Outcomes and complications of sponges versus tires for scleral buckling in primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment: The Manchester Buckle Study

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To compare preoperative characteristics and postoperative anatomical and functional outcomes of scleral buckle surgery using sponges versus tires, as well as explant‐related complications and the frequency of explant removal. Methods This retrospective study included patients with primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) who ...
