Abstract Longer‐term perspectives—equivalent to the lifespans of long‐lived trees—are required to fully inform perceptions of ‘naturalness’ used in woodland conservation and management. Stand‐scale dynamics of an old growth temperate woodland are reconstructed using palaeoecological data.

The human living environment is influenced by intense solar activity that exhibits periodicity and regularity. Although many deep-learning models are currently used for solar cycle prediction, most of them are based on a multistep pattern.

On forecasting the sunspot numbers
We have applied a technique recently proposed basing on learning nonlinear dynamics locally to describe the annual sunspot relative numbers. It is proved that the number of past points for prediction should be greater than 4 but less than 10. This rather simple approach yields in average relatively good results for short-term forecasts (< 11 yr ...

Relationship between food quality and body size of common vole in different habitats
The body size of the common vole in crop fields (alfalfa, rape, cereals) is larger than in less‐cultivated habitats (forests, clearings, set‐aside) and is not related to food quality. Abstract BACKGROUND There is a close relationship between habitat, food and demographic parameters of common vole populations.

The Maunder minimum (MM) of greatly reduced solar activity took place in 1645-1715, but the exact level of sunspot activity is uncertain as based, to a large extent, on historical generic statements of the absence of spots on the Sun.

Diagnosing the 11‐year solar cycle's influence on the East Atlantic pattern
A previously unidentified solar‐cycle response in the East Atlantic pattern is found in late winter at lag +3 years with larger amplitude than the NAO response. A statistically significant NAO response to the solar cycle is seen in late winter at lag 0 years.

Estimating sunspot number [PDF]
An empirical method is developed to predict certain parameters of future solar activity cycles. Sunspot cycle statistics are examined, and curve fitting and linear regression analysis techniques are ...

ABSTRACT Background The tight junction protein CLDN6 has been identified as a cancer‐associated cell surface marker that is rarely expressed in healthy tissues. In testicular germ cell tumors (GCT), CLDN6 is particularly detectable in seminomas, embryonal carcinomas, and choriocarcinomas.

Sunspot Number Variations [PDF]
In this activity students find the patterns that emerge when sunspot numbers are plotted over a period of time. Students learn about sunspot variations and the solar cycle, and are able to predict future solar minimums and solar maximums.

Axial length, myopia progression, and myopic maculopathy in Stickler syndrome
Abstract Purpose We lack knowledge on the potentially progressive nature of and the prevalence of complications to myopia as a characteristic trait of Stickler syndrome. Methods This cross‐sectional study combines ophthalmic examination and medical record data on Danish patients with genetically confirmed Stickler syndrome type 1 (COL2A1) and type 2 ...
