Macular telangiectasia type 2 genetic risk variants associated with clinical characteristics in the Slovenian cohort

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Early diagnosis of macular telangiectasia type 2 (MacTel) remains challenging, and the contribution of genetic variation to its clinical heterogeneity is unclear. This study investigated associations between MacTel risk variants and clinical characteristics in a Slovenian cohort.

Inter‐eye microvascular asymmetry across stages of diabetic retinopathy: An OCT angiography study

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To evaluate inter‐eye asymmetry in macular microvascular parameters across different stages of diabetic retinopathy (DR) using OCT angiography, and to explore the associations with clinical factors. Methods This cross sectional study included 442 eyes of 221 patients with diabetes mellitus type 2. Central subfield thickness (CST), area

Explainable deep learning self‐supervised vision transformer for fundus‐based myopia classification

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To develop and validate a self‐supervised vision transformer (ViT) for automated three‐class classification of Normal, High Myopia (HM), and Pathologic Myopia (PM) from colour fundus photographs, with anatomically faithful interpretability. Methods A DINOv2 self‐supervised ViT was fine‐tuned using a two‐stage transfer‐learning protocol

Systematic quantification of outer retinal morphology in three different SD‐OCT devices in geographic atrophy

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To define interdevice differences in quantitative outer retinal biomarkers across three spectral‐domain (SD) optical coherence tomography (OCT) devices in geographic atrophy (GA). Methods Patients with GA prospectively underwent imaging using Spectralis (Heidelberg Engineering), Cirrus (Zeiss) and Maestro (Topcon) OCT devices ...

Statistics of sunspot group clusters

open access: yesJournal of Space Weather and Space Climate, 2013
The Zubrzycki method is utilized to find all sunspot groups which are close to each other during each Carrington rotation. The sunspot group areas and their positions for the years 1874–2008 are used.

Analysis and prediction of sunspot numbers

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 1985
An extension of anharmonic frequency analysis (AFA) is used to analyze and extrapolate the sunspot numbers. The higher resolution possible with this new approach in principle permits a better accuracy of the prediction for a given extrapolation range, provided the time series is stationary.

A novel myopathy with autophagic vacuoles associated with biallelic variants in CLN8

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
We describe a novel adult‐onset myopathy with autophagic vacuoles and characteristic features of ceroid lipofuscinosis associated with biallelic CLN8 variants, seizures, and muscle weakness. Autophagosomal/lysosomal deposition of curvilinear, autofluorescent material containing the mitochondrial adenosine triphosphate (ATP) synthase membrane subunit c ...

Solar flare rates and probabilities based on the McIntosh classification: Impacts of GOES/XRS rescaling and revisited sunspot classifications

open access: yesJournal of Space Weather and Space Climate
In December 2019, the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) started using the GOES1-16 satellite as its primary input for solar X-ray flux monitoring.

Renal‐vascular axis: unmasking its role in vascular endothelial growth factor‐inhibitor vascular toxicity in cancer patients

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Vascular toxicity is a growing concern in cancer patients receiving vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitor (VEGFi) therapy, posing a significant threat to patient prognosis. While the primary mechanism of VEGFi‐induced vascular toxicity is linked to redox‐sensitive reactions that disrupt vascular tone, leading to hypertension and ...

CRB1‐Associated Inherited Retinal Dystrophies: Prospective Natural History Study With 4 Years of Follow‐Up

open access: yesClinical &Experimental Ophthalmology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The lack of validated and sensitive clinical endpoints remains a major challenge in the design of gene therapy trials for inherited retinal dystrophies (IRDs). This prospective longitudinal cohort study describes the natural disease progression of IRDs caused by pathogenic mutations in the Crumbs homologue 1 (CRB1) gene, and ...
