The impact of systemic long‐term medications for the development of age‐related macular degeneration
Abstract Purpose Age‐related macular degeneration (AMD) is a leading cause of central vision loss in the elderly; however, the systemic factors that modulate its incidence and progression remain unclear. We sought to determine whether long‐term use of systemic medications, including diabetes and antithrombotic medications, corticosteroids and ...

Abstract Purpose To investigate the diagnostic performance of ultrasound, 2‐deoxy‐2‐[18F]fluoro‐D‐glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (2‐[18F]FDG PET/CT) and temporal artery biopsy (TAB) in giant cell arteritis (GCA). Methods This was a prospective single‐centre diagnostic accuracy study (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT05248906).

Calibration of Sunspot Numbers
Waldmeier [1971] found a very tight relationship between the F10.7 solar radio flux and the sunspot number and suggested using the flux for an objective calibration of the sunspot number. He suggested that if this relationship changed later on, the sunspot number should be re-calibrated, assuming that the calibration must have drifted with time.

THE RELATIVE SUNSPOT NUMBERS IN 2001 [PDF]
We have analyzed 209 data of daily sunspot observations made during the period of January 3 to December 31 In 2001 and presented the daily relative sunspot numbers. During the year of 2001, our annual average of relative sunspot numbers is found to be 92.2.

Assessment of sunspot number cross-calibration approaches [PDF]
Context. Group sunspot number data form the longest record of direct observations of solar activity and variability. However, the observations were conducted by many observers using different telescopes and at diverse locations, which necessitates their ...

The impacts of high refractive errors on self‐reported visual function and visual concern
Abstract Purpose To examine the association between refractive errors and self‐reported visual function and visual concern, considering self‐perceived present eyesight, concerns about vision, accomplishing less and limitations in daily activities in an eye‐healthy cohort.

Changing relationships between sunspot number, total sunspot area and F 10.7 in cycles 23 and 24
This article is an update of a study (Tapping and Vald\ue8s in Solar Phys.272, 337, 2011) made in the early part of Cycle 24 using an intercomparison of various solar activity indices (including sunspot number and the 10.7 cm solar radio flux), in which ...
