Thermal Analysis of Superconducting Traction Transformer

2008 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion, 2008
The paper deals with thermal analysis of the superconducting single-phase high temperature superconductivity (HTS) traction transformer. The purpose is to investigate a thermal distribution of a heat in a cryogen with liquid nitrogen using a FEM software and program Fluent.

Development and application of superconducting transformers

Physica C: Superconductivity, 2002
Superconducting transformers are an important innovation for future power transmission and transportation systems. Powerful, lightweight, energy-saving and environmentally friendly they offer enormous benefits compared to their conventional counterparts.

Waveform transformation using shaped superconducting films

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1997
This article describes a procedure to arrive at a current controlled resistor, based on superconducting films for converting a sinusoidal current waveform of a certain magnitude into a triangular voltage waveform. As an example, it describes a resistor for converting a current of 180 μA into a triangular voltage of 22 mV.

Superconducting self-resonant air-core transformer

2000 IEEE 31st Annual Power Electronics Specialists Conference. Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.00CH37018), 2002
This paper presents a concept of an air-core transformer using superconducting and self-resonant techniques. Its magnetic property is examined here. Experimental results are used to verify the theoretical prediction. This transformer is important for future conversion and its applications are for elimination of the core and reduce the power loss and ...

Superconducting Transformer Design and Construction

2010
This thesis first outlines the testing undertaken on a partial core superconducting transformer under open circuit, short circuit, full load and endurance test conditions. During the endurance test, a failure occurred after 1 minute and 35 seconds. During the failure, voltage dipping and rapid liquid nitrogen boil off was observed.

Conductor losses in superconducting transformers

Cryogenics, 1969
Abstract An estimate is made of the losses in superconducting transformer windings. If these are not to be excessive, the transformer has to have a large rating.

Parameters of high-temperature superconducting transformers

Thermal Engineering, 2015
Parameters of the high-temperature superconducting (HTSC) transformer with a core-type magnetic circuit and with coaxial and symmetrical interleaved windings made of the first-generation HTSC wire with a localized magnetic field are considered. The parameters of the most widespread core-type transformer with a coaxial HTSC winding are compared with ...

Superconducting screening for squid flux transformers

Cryogenics, 1977
When a SQUID (Superconducting Quantum Interference Device) is used as a detector of magnetic flux, it is common practice to couple the flux to be measured into it via a flux transformer. As Fig. 1 shows, there is a need for an effective shield around the interconnexions of the two coils of the flux transformer.

SQUID operation with ferromagnetic core superconducting dc transformers

Cryogenics, 1975
Abstract We successfully used ferromagnetic core (Cryoperm 10) superconducting transformers to enhance the transfer of external magnetic flux to a symmetric two-holes rf biased quantum interference device (SQUID). The flux transfer ratio has been enhanced up to a factor of ten in comparison with air core superconducting transformers.

Superconductivity and structural transformation in HfRuAs

Physics Letters A, 1983
Abstract HfRuAs exists in two structural modifications. The high-temperature phase (ZrRuSi-type structure) exhibits superconductivity at 4.93-4.37 K, whereas the low-temperature phase (TiFeSi-type superstructure) remains normal at 1 K. The lattice distortion giving rise to the superstructure indicates zig-zag chains of metal atoms are crucial to ...
