Valorization of fishing industry by‐products for biodiesel production: Unlocking the potential of residual fish oil

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract Fishing waste and its by‐products, whether naturally occurring or generated by the processing industry, represent a significant opportunity for producing high‐value products. These often discarded or underutilized residues can be converted into various valuable products through advanced processing technologies. Among the potential products are

Gas adsorption in active carbons and the slit-pore model 1 : pure gas adsorption [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We describe procedures based on the polydisperse independent ideal slit-pore model, Monte Carlo simulation and density functional theory (a 'slab-DFT') for predicting gas adsorption and adsorption heats in active carbons.A novel feature of this work is ...

Sterilization of microorganisms with supercritical carbon dioxide. [PDF]

open access: yesAgricultural and Biological Chemistry, 1987
The sterilizing effect of supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-C02) is described as compared with gaseous C02(G-C02) and liquid C02(L-C02). Baker’s yeast, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and conidia of Aspergillus niger were sterilized by treating with SC-C02 at 200 atm and 35°C when the water content of each microorganism was 70 ~ 90%.

Optimal model‐based design of experiments for parameter precision: Supercritical extraction case

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract This study investigates the process of chamomile oil extraction from flowers. A parameter‐distributed model consisting of a set of partial differential equations is used to describe the governing mass transfer phenomena in a cylindrical packed bed with solid chamomile particles under supercritical conditions using carbon dioxide as a solvent ...

Spherically averaged versus angle-dependent interactions in quadrupolar fluids

open access: yes, 2008
Employing simplified models in computer simulation is on the one hand often enforced by computer time limitations but on the other hand it offers insights into the molecular properties determining a given physical phenomenon.

Sustainable Hydrogen Production by Glycerol and Monosaccharides Catalytic Acceptorless Dehydrogenation (AD) in Homogeneous Phase

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 18, Issue 6, March 15, 2025.
Sustainable hydrogen production can be obtained from hydogen‐rich biomass‐derived organic molecules through Acceptorless Dehydrogenation (AD) reactions. Glycerol and sugars are available in large quantities from industry and can be successfully used as substrates in AD protocols, in the presence of tailored, selective, easily tunable and thermally ...

Critical review of supercritical carbon dioxide extraction of selected oil seeds [PDF]

open access: yesActa Periodica Technologica, 2010
Supercritical carbon dioxide extraction, as a relatively new separation technique, can be used as a very efficient process in the production of essential oils and oleoresins from many of plant materials.

SN1 Reactions in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide in the Presence of Alcohols: the Role of Preferential Solvation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Ethanol (3b) inhibits SN1 reactions of alkyl halides 1 in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) and gives no ethers as products. The unexpected behaviour of alcohols 3 in the reaction of alkyl halides 1 with 1,3-dimethoxybenzene (2) in scCO2 under ...

Learning Strategies from Nature's Blueprint to Cyclic Carbonate Synthesis

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 18, Issue 6, March 15, 2025.
The development of sustainable synthetic methods for cyclic carbonates draws inspiration from nature, focusing on eco‐friendly processes and renewable resources like CO2 and biomass. This review explore various CO2 activation mechanisms, green chemistry principles, and green catalysts.
