Dissolution of uranium dioxide in supercritical fluid carbon dioxide

Chemical Communications, 2001
Uranium dioxide can be dissolved in supercritical CO2 with a CO2-philic TBP-HNO3 complexant to form a highly soluble UO2(NO3)(2).2TBP complex; this new method of dissolving UO2 that requires no water or organic solvent may have important applications for reprocessing of spent nuclear fuels and for treatment of nuclear wastes.

Radical polymerization in supercritical carbon dioxide—use of supercritical carbon dioxide as a mixing assistant

Chemical Engineering Science, 2005
Abstract In radical polymerization using a batch reactor, material concentrations and hot spots often appear in the reactor, which may have a bad influence on the polymer properties, and control of a reaction may become impossible, depending on the degree of the hot spots.

Homogeneous Catalysis in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide

2003
The utilization of SCFs as reaction media for metal-complex-catalyzed reactions has received growing attention in the last decade [1]. In fact, the peculiar properties of SCFs (high diffusivity, low viscosity, compressibility, tuneable solvent properties, etc) can make advantageous the use of SCFs as media for metal-complex catalyzed reactions in place

Supercritical Carbon Dioxide: The "Greener" Solvent

Environmental Science & Technology, 1996
It's not toxic and it doesn't harm the ozone layer, but can supercritical CO2 do the job in major industrial applications?

Discovery of supercritical carbon dioxide in a hydrothermal system

Science Bulletin, 2020
Supercritical CO2 appearing as bubbles in hydrothermal vents was identified in the south part of the Okinawa Trough using in situ Raman spectroscopy. Significantly, the N2 peak in supercritical CO2 is much larger than those in seawater and vent fluids, indicating that supercritical CO2 enriches N2 from the surrounding environment.

Coating carbon nanotubes with polymer in supercritical carbon dioxide

Chemical Communications, 2006
A facile and efficient method has been developed for coating MWNTs with solvent resistant polymer in scCO2, which permits the selective deposition of high molecular weight fluorinated graft poly(methyl vinyl ether-alt-maleic anhydride) polymer onto MWNTs in scCO2 under 100-170 bar at 40 degrees C and forms quasi one-dimensional nanostructures with ...
