Airfoil Design in Subcritical and Supercritical Flows

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1979
The “inverse” or “design” problem in aerodynamics, which solves for the airfoil shape that induces a prescribed chordwise surface pressure subject to additional requirements on trailing edge closure, is considered in the transonic small-disturbance limit. A new formulation for the stream function ψ is suggested which uses well-set Neumann conditions on

Numerical analysis on non-uniform flow and heat transfer of supercritical cryogenic methane in a heated horizontal circular tube

Journal of Supercritical Fluids, 2018
This paper numerically studied non-uniform flow and heat transfer of supercritical cryogenic methane in a heated horizontal circular tube. Numerical results indicated that the peak value of heat transfer coefficient appeared near the vicinity of pseudo ...

Steady Supercritical Flow Past Ellipses

1976
Within the past 5 years, numerical methods applicable to transsonic flow past an airfoil have been extensively investigated. Approaches for calculating a steady, two-dimensional, inviscid transsonic flow field may be roughly divided into three classes: finite difference techniques, hodograph methods, and semi-analytical techniques.

Supercritical Flow in Density Currents

SEPM Journal of Sedimentary Research, 1974
Experiments with saline currents show that most flow phenomena and sedimentary structures characteristic of supercritical flow in open channels can be duplicated with density underflows. Antidunes, breaking antidunes, and chutes-and-pools formed spontaneously on an erodible bed at densiometric Froude numbers greater than 1.0.

Experimental Studies on Supercritical Flows

1998
Abstract : Stimulated scattering was performed with infrared lasers at 1064 nm and with a ring dye laser at 532 nm. For the measurements at 1064 nm, a Nd:YAG laser was used as the pump laser and a tunable diode laser was used as the probe laser. With this apparatus stimulated Brillouin and stimulated Rayleigh scattering were observed in hexane and ...

Supercritical Flow Flumes for Measuring Sediment-Laden Flow

1982
A general type of supercritical flow flume has been developed over many years of experience and testing in discharge measurements at the Walnut Gulch experimental watershed, Tombstone, Ariz. The design and experience with .the original type flume, called the Walnut Gulch .flume, is discussed and its features and .application difficulties are described.

RELAXATION FACTORS FOR SUPERCRITICAL FLOWS

AIAA Computational Fluid Dynamics Conference, 1973
Relaxation procedures for solution of steady supercritical transonic flows are investigated. Von Neumann (Fourier-mode) stability analysis is used to find bounds of relaxation factors. The bounds depend on local Mach number and local mesh aspect ratio. Long wave instability of Murman-Cole implicit method is indicated. Two new relaxation procedures are

Boundary Controllability between Sub- and Supercritical Flow

SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization, 2003
The author considers the flow through a frictionless horizontal rectangular channel that is governed by de St. Venant equations and show that the state can be controlled in finite time from a stationary initial state to a given stationary terminal state in such a way that during this transition, the state stays in the class of \(C^{1}\) functions, so ...

Supercritical Flow Synthesis of TiO2

2014
A new, up-scaled supercritical flow synthesis apparatus has been constructed in Aarhus. A module based system allows for a range of parameter studies with improved parameter control. The dual-reactor setup enables both single phase and core-shell nanoparticle synthesis.
