Ammonothermal Growth of Rhombohedral Boron Nitride

open access: yesphysica status solidi (b), EarlyView.
Boron nitride crystals are grown using the ammonothermal technique in a temperature‐induced solubility gradient of BN dissolved in a solution of supercritical ammonia using sodium as the mineralizer. The grown BN crystals harvest off the autoclave walls, and cubic BN seeds are characterized as hexagonal and rhombohedral phases of BN. Boron nitride (BN)

Temporal and spatial dynamics of a local wind in Japan, “Kiyokawa‐dashi”: Insights from high‐density observations and numerical simulations

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
We studied a renowned local wind in Japan, “Kiyokawa‐dashi,” with a numerical model and high‐density observations at approximately 1‐km intervals. “Kiyokawa‐dashi” typically begins with intense winds descending onto a confined area leeward of a gorge at the initiation stage and expands over the entire plain at the mature stage.

A Thermoreversible Gelation Pathway to Mesoporous Aerogel Monoliths Based on Poly(methyl methacrylate) Stereocomplex Crystals

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
This work reports monolithic aerogels composed of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and its stereocomplex crystals. Here, stereoregular PMMAs are assembled into monoliths comprised of nanometric crystalline ligaments. These monoliths exhibit either mixed macro‐/mesoporous, or exclusively mesoporous character.

Butterfly Wing Microstructure Inspired Solid/Porous Alternating Layered Structures: In Situ Visualization of Confined Foaming

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Inspired by butterfly wings, multilayered solid/porous films with micro/nano‐layered architecture are fabricated via confined foaming. In situ visualization reveals confinement‐driven nucleation behavior. The resulting structures exhibit enhanced solar reflectivity, anisotropic thermal conductivity, and superior thermal regulation, delaying heat ...
