Activation of superior colliculi in humans during visual exploration [PDF]
Background Visual, oculomotor, and – recently – cognitive functions of the superior colliculi (SC) have been documented in detail in non-human primates in the past. Evidence for corresponding functions of the SC in humans is still rare.

In vivo Probabilistic Structural Atlas of the Inferior and Superior Colliculi, Medial and Lateral Geniculate Nuclei and Superior Olivary Complex in Humans Based on 7 Tesla MRI [PDF]
Despite extensive neuroimaging research of primary sensory cortices involved in auditory and visual functions, subcortical structures within these domains, such as the inferior and superior colliculi, the medial and lateral geniculate nuclei and the ...

Unconscious Cueing via the Superior Colliculi: Evidence from Searching for Onset and Color Targets [PDF]
According to the bottom-up theory of attention, unconscious abrupt onsets are highly salient and capture attention via the Superior Colliculi (SC). Crucially, abrupt onsets increase the perceived contrast.

Effects of damage to superior colliculi and pre-tectum on movement discrimination in rhesus monkeys [PDF]
Eight rhesus monkeys (Macaca mulatta) were trained to detect an instantaneous lateral displacement of a small spot of light. The smallest movement for 79% correct performance was then determined. Severing the splenium of the corpus callosum, which has to be done to reveal the superior colliculi, had no effect on the movement threshold.

Abstract The interaction between both superior colliculi through the collicular commissure was studied in cats. Stimulation of the optic tract and superior colliculus elicited a positive potential on the contralateral superior colliculus, recorded between 1.5- and 4.5- or 5.0-mm depth.

Inferior and Superior Colliculi
In the classical neuroanatomical literature, the inferior and superior colliculi, located on the roof of the midbrain, are grouped together as the corpora quadrigemina. However, modern research indicates that these structures have quite different functions.

The Superior Colliculi and Eye Movements
FOR ALMOST a century the superior colliculi have been considered as important structures in oculomotor functions. This concept originated in 1870 when Adamiik observed conjugate eye movements upon electric stimulation of the tectum.1It was then that the hypothesis of a gaze "center" was introduced and remained unchallenged until Bernheimer2and Ferrier ...

Evidence for a push-pull interaction between superior colliculi in monocular dynamic vision mode [PDF]
Visual perception can operate in two distinct vision modes—static and dynamic—that have been associated with different neural activity regimes in the superior colliculus (SC).

Stereological analysis of the vascular network in superior colliculi [PDF]
Background/Aim: Superior colliculi have an important role in the visual system, some motor functions and behaviour. Branches of the posterior cerebral artery and surrounding vessels form a collicular arterial network, which gives rise to several ...
