Superior colliculus saccade motor bursts do not dictate movement kinematics
Using two different comparisons of varying saccade types, a systematic analysis of saccade-related activity in superior colliculus (SC) neurons demonstrates that SC motor bursts do not dictate the kinematics of rapid eye movements.

Human frontal eye fields and spatial priming of pop-out [PDF]
"Priming of pop-out" is a form of implicit memory that facilitates detection of a recently inspected search target. Repeated presentation of a target's features or its spatial position improves detection speed (feature/spatial priming).

A Role for the Superior Colliculus in Decision Criteria [PDF]
Simple decisions arise from the evaluation of sensory evidence. But decisions are determined by more than just evidence. Individuals establish internal decision criteria that influence how they respond. Where or how decision criteria are established in the brain remains poorly understood. Here, we show that neuronal activity in the superior colliculus (

Chronic silencing of subsets of layer 5 projection neurons has distinct effects on the laminar distribution of PV interneurons and the perineuronal nets in the adult primary motor and somatosensory cortex. Abstract Neural networks are established throughout cortical development, which require the right ratios of glutamatergic and GABAergic neurons ...

Postnatal interaction of size and shape in the human endocranium and brain structures
Brain–cranium integration and “endocranial globularization” for the modern human was assessed on MR‐image landmarks (top left) and volumes (top right). The size and shape were evaluated as a total brain and as respective subdivisions of supratentorial (green), infratentorial (red) and cranial base (blue).

Gene therapy for epilepsy: An emerging, promising approach for a serious neurological disorder
Abstract Gene therapy is emerging as a groundbreaking strategy for treating epilepsy, offering new hope to patients who do not respond to conventional medications. Despite advancements in anti‐seizure treatments, nearly 30%–40% of individuals with epilepsy continue to experience uncontrolled seizures, highlighting the urgent need for more effective and

Corticostriatal control of defense behavior in mice induced by auditory looming cues
Innate defense behaviours in animals in response to approaching threats are mostly studied in response to visual stimuli. Here, the authors show that looming sounds elicit stereotypical sequential defensive reactions that require the auditory cortex ...

A biomechanical study verifying that deltoid ligament augmentation can be an alternative to syndesmotic fixation for stabilizing both the medial malleolar and the syndesmosis in selective patients with Weber C ankle injuries. ABSTRACT Objectives Ankle fracture with both deltoid ligament (DL) rupture and syndesmotic diastasis is often treated by ...

Attention-related modulation of caudate neurons depends on superior colliculus activity
Recent work has implicated the primate basal ganglia in visual perception and attention, in addition to their traditional role in motor control. The basal ganglia, especially the caudate nucleus ‘head’ (CDh) of the striatum, receive indirect anatomical ...
