Superoxide Scavenging Effects of Some Novel Bis-Ligands and Their Solvated Metal Complexes Prepared by the Reaction of Ligands with Aluminum, Copper and Lanthanum Ions

open access: yesMolecules, 2013
Novel antioxidants have been synthesized and characterized by their chemical properties as antioxidants with high superoxide scavenging activity. (2R,3R)-diphenylethylenediamine is a spacer in antioxidants, and we synthesized targets 11a and 11b by ...

Antioxidant Properties of Thymoquinone, Thymohydroquinone and Black Cumin (Nigella sativa L.) Seed Oil: Scavenging of Superoxide Radical Studied Using Cyclic Voltammetry, DFT and Single Crystal X-ray Diffraction

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2023
Black cumin seeds and seed oil have long been used in traditional foods and medicine in South Asian, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean countries and are valuable flavor ingredients. An important ingredient of black cumin is the small molecule thymoquinone

Thylakoid Rhodanese-like Protein–Ferredoxin:NADP+ Oxidoreductase Interaction Is Integrated into Plant Redox Homeostasis System

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2023
In vascular plants, the final photosynthetic electron transfer from ferredoxin (Fd) to NADP+ is catalyzed by the flavoenzyme ferredoxin:NADP+ oxidoreductase (FNR).

Role of superoxide dismutases (SODs) in controlling oxidative stress in plants.

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Botany, 2002
Reactive O(2) species (ROS) are produced in both unstressed and stressed cells. Plants have well-developed defence systems against ROS, involving both limiting the formation of ROS as well as instituting its removal.

Role of Protons in Superoxide Reduction by a Superoxide Reductase Analogue [PDF]

open access: yesInorganic Chemistry, 2005
Superoxide reduction by thiolate-ligated [FeII(SMe2N4(tren))]+ (1) involves two proton-dependent steps and a single peroxide intermediate, [FeIII(SMe2N4(tren))(OOH)]+ (2). An external proton donor is required, ruling out mechanisms involving H+ or H-atom abstraction from the ligand N-H.

Inhibition of acyl‐CoA synthetase long‐chain isozymes decreases multiple myeloma cell proliferation and causes mitochondrial dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Triacsin C inhibition of the acyl‐CoA synthetase long chain (ACSL) family decreases multiple myeloma cell survival, proliferation, mitochondrial respiration, and membrane potential. Made with Biorender.com. Multiple myeloma (MM) is an incurable cancer of plasma cells with a 5‐year survival rate of 59%.

Effect of Bothrops alternatus snake venom on macrophage phagocytosis and superoxide production: participation of protein kinase C

open access: yesJournal of Venomous Animals and Toxins including Tropical Diseases, 2011
Envenomations caused by different species of Bothrops snakes result in severe local tissue damage, hemorrhage, pain, myonecrosis, and inflammation with a significant leukocyte accumulation at the bite site.

Superoxide Radical Dismutation as New Therapeutic Strategy in Parkinson’s Disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
open4siAging is the biggest risk factor for developing many neurodegenerative disorders, including idiopathic Parkinson's disease (PD). PD is still an incurable disorder and the available medications are mainly directed to the treatment of symptoms in ...
