Parthenolide induces superoxide anion production by stimulating EGF receptor in MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells. [PDF]
The sesquiterpene lactone parthenolide (PN) has recently attracted considerable attention because of its anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and anticancer effects. However, the mechanism of its cytotoxic action on tumor cells remains scarcely defined.

Lanthanide ytterbium ions are introduced into Bi2WO6 nanosheets to boost ROS generation under US stimulation. These ytterbium‐doped Bi2WO6 nanosheets serve as efficient sonosensitizers, enabling broad‐spectrum bacterial eradication. To improve biocompatibility for in vivo sonodynamic therapy, the sonosensitizers are integrated into hydrogel matrix ...

Generation of superoxide anion by the NADH dehydrogenase of bovine heart mitochondria.
Submitochondrial particles from bovine heart in which NADH dehydrogenase is reduced by either addition of NADH and rotenone or by reversed electron transfer generate 0.9 +/- 0.1 nmol of O2-/min per mg of protein at pH 7.4 and at 30 degrees C.

Nifedipine inhibits superoxide production induced by pulsatile stretch in human aortic endothelial cells [PDF]
Dihydropiridine calcium channel blocker nifedipine restores nitric oxide-mediated vasodilation in human hypertension. The mechanims involved have not been fully characterized but may relate to endothelial protection.

Semiconducting Polymer Nanoparticles as Multimodal Agents for Optical and Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Semiconducting polymer nanoparticles (SPNs) exhibit many advantageous optical and biological properties. Multimodal SPN‐based contrast agents that integrate several imaging modalities yield a wealth of information through the use of different imaging mechanisms.

Amperometric enzyme sensor to check the total antioxidant capacity of several mixed berries. comparison with two other spectrophotometric and fluorimetric methods [PDF]
The aim of this research was to test the correctness of response of a superoxide dismutase amperometric biosensor used for the purpose of measuring and ranking the total antioxidant capacity of several systematically analysed mixed berries.

This study presents alkylated nitrobenzoselenadiazole (NBSD) photosensitizers that self‐assemble into programmable aggregates, enabling photo‐triggered pyroptosis and enhanced ROS generation. The lead compound, NBSD‐NOc, exhibits superior photodynamic activity, high cellular uptake, and implantable gel compatibility with pH‐responsive release.

Assessment of the cytotoxicity of chlorhexidine by employing an in vitro mammalian test system
Background/purpose: Chlorhexidine (CHX), a chlorophenyl biguanide with broad antibacterial action, has been widely used in dentistry. The initial uses of CHX in dentistry were to wash operation site and to disinfect root canals. Recently, the addition of

Superoxide anions enhance platelet adhesion and aggregation [PDF]
Superoxide dismutase (SOD, 60 u ml−1) or ferricytochrome c (70 μm) significantly inhibited thrombin‐stimulated platelet adhesion to gelatin‐coated plastic, whereas catalase (1000 u ml−1) or mannitol (1 mm) had no effect. The platelet aggregation induced by low concentrations of thrombin (causing less than 45% maximal change in light transmission) was ...
