Stilbene compounds are specific inhibitors of the superoxide anion generation catalyzed by xanthine oxidase [PDF]

open access: yesFood Chemistry: X, 2021
The inhibitory effect of xanthine oxidase (XO) reactions with stilbene compounds, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging by stilbene compounds and superoxide anion (O2-) scavenging activity were examined.

Superoxide Anion Radical (O·̄2), Superoxide Dismutases, and Related Matters [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1997
A field of inquiry may be said to have come of age when conclusions initially viewed as remarkable or even unbelievable are accepted as commonplace.

Superoxide Anion, Uncoupling Proteins and Alzheimer’s Disease

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Biochemistry and Nutrition, 2010
Superoxide anion is the first generated reactive oxygen species (ROS) after oxygen enters living cells. It was once considered to be highly deleterious to cell functions and aging. Therefore, antioxidants were suggested to prevent aging and degenerative diseases.

INFLUENCE OF SYSTEMIC INFLAMMATORY RESPONSE SYNDROME ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF OXIDATIVE STRESS DURING SIMULATION OF CHRONIC ALCOHOL INTOXICATION IN RATS [PDF]

open access: yesBiotechnologia Acta, 2022
The aim of our study was to analyze changes in the development of oxidative stress in the liver of rats with chronic alcohol intoxication against the background of systemic inflammatory response syndrome based on the study of catalase and superoxide ...

Structural Evidence for a Copper-Bound Carbonate Intermediate in the Peroxidase and Dismutase Activities of Superoxide Dismutase [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Copper-zinc superoxide dismutase (SOD) is of fundamental importance to our understanding of oxidative damage. Its primary function is catalysing the dismutation of superoxide to O2 and H2O2. SOD also reacts with H2O2, leading to the formation of a strong

Unexpected benzene oxidation in collisions with superoxide anions [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
AbstractSuperoxide anions colliding with benzene molecules at impact energies from 200 to 900 eV are reported for the first time to form massive complexes. With the aid of quantum chemistry calculations, we propose a mechanism in which a sudden double ionization of benzene and the subsequent electrostatic attraction between the dication and the anion ...

Involvement of the superoxide anion in sulphoxidation (Short Communication) [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1974
Sulphoxidation of compounds capable of undergoing biological sulphoxidation has been demonstrated in a model system (NADH–phenazine methosulphate–O2), known to generate superoxide anions (O2-). Addition of superoxide dismutase to this system results in complete inhibition, suggesting the involvement of O2- in sulphoxidation.

Investigation of the Superoxide Anion-Triggered Chemiluminescence of Coelenterazine Analogs

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
Reactive oxygen species (ROS), including superoxide anion, are involved in regulating various signaling pathways and are also responsible for oxidative stress. Sensing superoxide anion is of particular importance due to its biological significance.

Free radical degradation in aqueous solution by blowing hydrogen and carbon dioxide nanobubbles

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
The main findings are the hydroxyl radical scavenging and the superoxide anion diminishing by mixing the carbon dioxide (CO2) nanobubbles after hydrogen nanobubble blowing in water and alcohol aqueous solution.
