Superoxide anion is an endothelium-derived contracting factor

American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology, 1989
The calcium ionophore A23187 causes endothelium-dependent contractions in canine basilar arteries. Removal of the endothelium, or treatment with indomethacin or superoxide dismutase (SOD), prevented the endothelium-dependent excitatory effect of the calcium ionophore. Catalase and deferoxamine were without effect.

Dynamic and reversible fluorescence imaging of superoxide anion fluctuations in live cells and in vivo.

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2013
Overgeneration of reactive oxygen species (ROS) is closely associated with cellular damage and diseases. As superoxide anion (O2(•-)) is the precursor of other ROS, exploring O2(•-) fluctuations in cells and in vivo is of great significance.

Production of superoxide anion radicals as evidence for carbon nanodots acting as electron donors by the chemiluminescence method.

Chemical Communications, 2013
In this communication, a novel chemiluminescence phenomenon was observed for the as-prepared carbon nanodots (CDs) in a concentrated sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution.

Superoxide anion radical scavenging property of catecholamines

Luminescence, 2013
ABSTRACTThe direct effect of the four catecholamines (adrenaline, noradrenaline, dopamine and isoproterenol) on superoxide anion radicals () was investigated. The reaction between 18‐crown‐6‐ether and potassium superoxide in dimethylsulfoxide was used as a source of .

Mitochondria-targeted reaction-based two-photon fluorescent probe for imaging of superoxide anion in live cells and in vivo.

Analytical Chemistry, 2013
A newly synthesized reaction-based two-photon (TP) fluorescence imaging probe, 9-butyltriphenylphosphoniumacylamino-2,7-dibenzothiazolineflurene (MF-DBZH), composed of a superoxide anion (O2(•-)) responsive group and a mitochondria-targeted site, has ...

Superoxide anion and drug-induced hemolysis

1977
Superoxide anion, either generated during the autooxidation of dihydroxyfumaria acid or by the interaction of 1,4-naphthoquinone-2-sulfonate and intracellular hemoglobin in red cells pretreated with the intracellular superoxide dismutase inhibitor, diethyldithiocarbamate, produces structural changes in red cells hemoglobin and hypotonic lysis.

Ceruloplasmin, extracellular-superoxide dismutase, and scavenging of superoxide anion radicals

Journal of Free Radicals in Biology & Medicine, 1986
Ceruloplasmin and extracellular-superoxide dismutase are similar in physical properties. Both are found in extracellular fluids and both are scavengers of the superoxide radical. The relationship between the two proteins was further explored in the present investigation.

ChemInform Abstract: OXYGENATION OF 3‐HYDROXYFLAVONES BY SUPEROXIDE ANION

Chemischer Informationsdienst, 1981

The release of superoxide anion from granulocytes: Effect of inhibitors of anion permeability

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1979
Generation of superoxide anion (O2−) by phagocytizing bovine blood granulocytes and extracellular release of the anion were simultaneously assayed by measuring oxygen consumption and O2−-dependent ferricytochrome c reduction. O2− release, but not generation, was markedly inhibited by 4-acetamido-4′-isothiocyano-stilbene-2,2′-disulfonate and by 1 ...

Acylhydrazide Schiff bases: DPPH radical and superoxide anion scavengers.

Medicinal chemistry, 2012
Acylhydrazide Schiff bases 1-27 were evaluated for their in vitro DPPH radical and superoxide anion scavenging activity. They showed a varying degree of DPPH radical scavenging activity with IC(50) values between 31.25-473.59 µM.
