Superparamagnetic Photonic Crystals

Photonic crystals consisting of monodisperse superparamagnetic colloidal particles have been synthesized. The particles (see Figure) are obtained by emulsion polymerization of styrene in the presence of freshly precipitated surface-modified iron oxide nanoparticles.
