Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Modeling and supervisory control design for a combined cycle power plant [PDF]
The traditional control strategy based on PID controllers may be unsatisfactory when dealing with processes with large time delay and constraints. This paper presents a supervisory model based constrained predictive controller (MPC) for a combined cycle ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

The control and supervisory activities’ reforms in Russia are actively underway: a risk-oriented model during organising the control (supervision) is being introduced. Some control and supervisory agencies implement such model from 2015.

A supervisory control approach for Digit navigation on inclined terrain [PDF]
Poulakakis, IoannisHumanoid robots are engineered to replicate human capabilities, including navigating inclined terrains with stable locomotion. Humans exhibit remarkable adaptive capability to safely traverse inclined terrains without sight, adjusting ...

Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Optimization of the Membership Functions for a Fuzzy Controller Using an Improved Genetic Algorithms
Fuzzy control is a practical alternative for a variety of challenging control applications since it provides a convenient method for constructing nonlinear controllers via the use of heuristic information; this is done through the application of the ...

Discrete hierarchical supervisory control for autonomous underwater vehicle [PDF]
Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) is an unmanned untethered underwater vehicle managed by its control architecture. If we want AUV to undertake a user-specified mission without the presence of human, the control system should have enough machine ...
