Human-plant centric shading control: Considering the impact of shading systems on both occupants’ and plants’ requirements [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2022
Traditionally, control strategies are applied to automate switchable electrochromic glazing systems (EC) to save energy and provide comfort for occupants indoors. In addition, the plants’ minimum requirements and the consequences of active shading on the

Simulation of greenhouse energy use: an application of energy informatics

open access: yesEnergy Informatics, 2018
Greenhouse agriculture is a highly efficient method of food production that can greatly benefit from supplemental electric lighting. The needed electricity associated with greenhouse lighting amounts to about 30% of its operating costs.

Abaxial leaf illumination: A strategy to enhance photosynthesis and yield in strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa)

open access: yesEnvironmental and Experimental Botany
Low light intensity and short photoperiods during autumn and winter are often further reduced by structural shading in protected cultivation systems, limiting strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa) yield.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.
