The psychosocial toll of Dublin III on asylum seekers in the Netherlands

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Community Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract The Dublin III Regulation determines which EU Member State is responsible for examining asylum claims, but its implementation carries significant consequences for those subjected to it. This study examines how Dublin III, as implemented in the Netherlands, affects asylum seekers' psychosocial wellbeing using Silove′s Adaptation and Development

Catalyst Hide‐and‐Seek Beneath Porous Support Surfaces: Pinpointing Active Site Distribution Through Resonance Energy Transfer

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Like a shark playing hide‐and‐seek in a coral reef, energy transfer (ET) finds hidden “fish” catalysts in the porous support “reef.” ET allows catalytic species to be precisely mapped, revealing whether they reside near the surface, deep in the pores, or are uniformly distributed. This approach ensures controlled catalyst distribution, highlighting how

Vascular Abnormalities in Hypermobile Ehlers–Danlos Syndrome: A Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hypermobile Ehlers–Danlos syndrome (hEDS), while generally free from severe vascular complications, may occasionally present with cardiac and vascular abnormalities that warrant specific investigation. While studies have been conducted on the prevalence of cardiac involvement, none have focused on vascular aspects. This retrospective study was

Strain‐Release Pentafluorosulfanylation of Carbonyl‐Containing Disubstituted Bicyclobutanes: A Fortuitous Path to SF5‐Containing Oxa[2.1.1]bicyclohexanes

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A regio‐ and diastereoselective method for strain‐release pentafluorosulfanylation of carbonyl‐containing 1,3‐disubstituted [1.1.0]bicyclobutanes (BCBs) was developed that led to several fortuitous discoveries. For instance, the resultant SF5‐cyclobutanes (SF5‐CBs) exhibit close SF5⋯C═X contacts (X = C, N, O) and provide synthetic access to a new class

Selective Nitrate Transmembrane Transport Through Adaptive Weak C─H Bonding Cyanostilbene Water Channels

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Here we demonstrate that weak HB CH donor cyanostilbenes promote water/ion transport through their ability to form less‐ordered transient water channels within the lipid bilayer with increased water permeability and NO3−/ Cl− selectivity. ABSTRACT Transmembrane water transport strongly depends on how dynamic, translocating water clusters are stabilized

Slowing Down Water: Enhanced and Cation‐responsive MRI Contrast

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
The controlled modification of mesoporous silica nanoparticle side walls with kosmotropic motifs supports an ability to reduce water diffusive mobility and dramatically increase MRI contrast to levels unprecedented for highly kinetically stable Gd‐DOTA configurations (both q = 1 and q = 0).

1,7‐Digallatetracarborane: Between Nucleophilic closo‐Cluster and “Inverse Sandwich” Digallylene

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A dianionic π‐ligand is used to make a Janus‐type twofold complex with low‐valent gallium Ga(+I). The resulting compound can be seen as and reveals the reactivity of both: a Wade‐type closo‐carborane cluster with nucleophilic Ga‐sites, as well as π‐ligand stabilized Ga(I) atoms in an inverse sandwich compound.

Excited‐State Antiaromaticity in Nonbenzenoid Aromatics: Examining the Dynamics of Intramolecular Proton Transfer With a Small Driving Force

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
The excited‐state antiaromaticity of hydroxybenzotropyliums (HBTs) can be tuned through substituent effects to bring the aromatic ‘enol’ (E) and keto (K) tautomers close in energy. This leads to abnormally slow excited‐state proton transfer (on the ns timescale), giving rise to dual fluorescence emission and weak photoacidity.
