The chirality of dendrimer-based supramolecular complexes

Boc-protected L-phenylalanine has been connected to a spacer-armed ureido-acetic acid derivative, which can form multiple supramolecular complexes with urea-adamantyl modified poly(propylene imine) dendrimers in chloroform. Complexes of this guest with several generations of urea-adamantyl dendrimers were prepared.

▪ Abstract  PDZ domains are modular protein interaction domains that bind in a sequence-specific fashion to short C-terminal peptides or internal peptides that fold in a β-finger. The diversity of PDZ binding specificities can be explained by variable amino acids lining the peptide-binding groove of the PDZ domain.

Supramolecular Adsorption of Alkaloids by Metallosalphen Complexes

Mono and bis-zinc(II)-centered salphen derivatives 1-5 are presented as efficient adsorption materials for pyridine-based alkaloid derivatives. The different alkaloid assemblies were studied by UV-vis and NMR spectroscopy, and high binding constants (Ks approximately 10(5)) were additionally determined for the supramolecular complexes based on nicotine.

Substituting one metal for another in inorganic and organometallic systems is a proven strategy for synthesizing complex molecules, and in some cases, provides the only route to a particular system. The multivalent nature of the coordination in metal-ligand assemblies lends itself more readily to some types of transmetalation.
