Modular protein frameworks via supramolecular synthons. [PDF]

open access: yesBiophys Rev
Abstract Controlled protein assembly and protein crystal engineering are routes to new types of biomaterials. In this review, we examine how crystal engineering concepts, including polymorph searching, molecular tectonics and supramolecular synthons, can be adapted and applied in protein-based systems.

Supramolecular Synthons in Protein-Ligand Frameworks. [PDF]

open access: yesCryst Growth Des
Supramolecular synthons, defined as reproducible intermolecular structural units, have greatly aided small molecule crystal engineering. In this paper, we propose that supramolecular synthons guide ligand-mediated protein crystallization. The protein RSL and the macrocycle sulfonato-calix[8]arene cocrystallize in at least four ways.

Making and Breaking Supramolecular Synthons for Modular Protein Frameworks. [PDF]

open access: yesChemistry
AbstractAnionic calixarenes are useful mediators of protein assembly. In some cases, protein – calixarene cocrystallization yields multiple polymorphs. Ralstonia solanacearum lectin (RSL) cocrystallizes with p‐sulfonato‐calix[8]arene (sclx8) in at least four distinct pH‐dependent arrangements.

Supramolecular Synthons: Will Giant Rigid Superspheres Do? [PDF]

open access: yesCryst Growth Des, 2016
For the first time, the concept of supramolecular synthons was applied to giant rigid superspheres based on pentaphosphaferrocene [CpRFe(η5-P5)] (R = Me, Et) and Cu(I) halides, which reach 2.1-3.0 nm in diameter. Two supramolecular synthons, σ-π and π-π, are discovered based on halogen···CpR and Cp*···Cp* specific interactions, respectively.

Supramolecular Frameworks Based on Rhenium Clusters Using the Synthons Approach [PDF]

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
The reaction of the K4[{Re6Si8}(OH)a6]·8H2O rhenium cluster salt with pyrazine (Pz) in aqueous solutions of alkaline or alkaline earth salts at 4 °C or at room temperature leads to apical ligand exchange and to the formation of five new compounds: [trans-{Re6Si8}(Pz)a2(OH)a2(H2O)a2] (1), [cis-{Re6Si8}(Pz)a2(OH)a2(H2O)a2] (2), (NO3)[cis-{Re6Si8}(Pz)a2 ...

Supramolecular Synthon Identification in Azelaic Acid – Isonicotinamide

open access: yesJournal of Magnetic Resonance Open, 2022
Supramolecular synthons are the smallest structural units that contain the information inherent in building large molecular assemblies. Here, we apply solid-state NMR methods for the identification of the synthon in a cocrystal of Azelaic acid [(CH2)7(COOH)2]– Isonicotinamide [C6H6N2O]. It is observed that the spin-lattice relaxation time of protons in

Supramolecular Assembly of Ag(I) Centers: Diverse Topologies Directed by Anionic Interactions. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Ag(I)-Ag(I) interactions in supramolecular structures have been achieved through the use of structural support from the ligand frames. In structures involving simple ligands like pyridine, strong π-π interaction leads to spatial ordering of the ...

1,1,2,2-Tetracyanocyclopropane (TCCP) as supramolecular synthon

open access: yesPhysical Chemistry Chemical Physics, 2016
The 1,1,2,2-tetracyanocyclopropane (TCCP) unit presents a synthetically accessible and versatile synthon that can interact with lone-pair or π-electrons by ‘non-covalent Carbon bonding’.

Carbamazepine on a carbamazepine monolayer forms unique 1D supramolecular assemblies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
High-resolution STM imaging of the structures formed by carbamazepine molecules adsorbed onto a pseudo-ordered carbamazepine monolayer on Au(111) shows the formation of previously unreported 1-dimensional supramolecular ...
