Peptide‐based ligand antagonists block a Vibrio cholerae adhesin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The structure of a peptide‐binding domain of the Vibrio cholerae adhesin FrhA was solved by X‐ray crystallography, revealing how the inhibitory peptide AGYTD binds tightly at its Ca2+‐coordinated pocket. Structure‐guided design incorporating D‐amino acids enhanced binding affinity, providing a foundation for developing anti‐adhesion therapeutics ...

Gravitational waves propagation in nondynamical Chern-Simons gravity

open access: yes, 2017
We investigate the propagation of gravitational waves in linearized Chern-Simons (CS) modified gravity by considering two nondynamical models for the coupling field $\theta$: (i) a domain wall and (ii) a surface layer of $\theta$, motivated by their ...

Ion-implantation-caused special damage profiles determined by spectroscopic ellipsometry in crystalline and in relaxed (annealed) amorphous silicon [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
We previously developed a fitting method of several parameters to evaluate ion-implantation-caused damage profiles from spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE) (M. Fried et al., J. Appl. Phys., 71 (1992) 2835).

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Study of the Surface Structural Transformation and Mechanical Properties of 65Mn Steel Modified by Pulsed Detonation–Plasma Technology

open access: yesMetals
Pulsed detonation–plasma technology (PDT) is a surface-modification technology used in an atmospheric environment, where plasma, a detonation impact and thermal conditions are combined and have an effect on the material’s surface. In this study, annealed

Fire-protection of wooden structures by modification in a thin surface layer

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
The mechanism of fire protection of wood by the modification of a thin surface layer with organophosphorus compounds has been studied. The properties of the modified thin surface layer were studied by X-ray spectral analysis, IR spectroscopy and ...

Eco-friendly surface modification approach to develop thin film nanocomposite membrane with improved desalination and antifouling properties

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Research, 2022
Introduction: Nanomaterials aggregation within polyamide (PA) layer of thin film nanocomposite (TFN) membrane is found to be a common issue and can negatively affect membrane filtration performance.

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Influence of Surface-Modified Montmorillonite Clays on the Properties of Elastomeric Thin Layer Nanocomposites

open access: yesMaterials, 2023
In recent years, polyurethane nanocomposites have attracted more attention due to the massive demand for materials with increasingly exceptional mechanical, optical, electrical, and thermal properties. As nanofillers have a high surface area, the interaction between the nanofiller and the polymer matrix is an essential issue for these materials.
