Sorting of droplets by migration on structured surfaces

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Nanotechnology, 2011
Background: Controlled transport of microdroplets is a topic of interest for various applications. It is well known that liquid droplets move towards areas of minimum contact angle if placed on a flat solid surface exhibiting a gradient of contact angle.

Surface and Subsurface Residual Stresses after Machining and their Analysis by X-Ray Diffraction

open access: yesCommunications, 2013
Process specifications and working procedures widely used by the aerospace and automotive industries require surface analysis by machining and specify the process parameters such as type, destructive measuring or simulations.

Recurrent Surface Homeomorphisms

open access: yes, 1998
An orientation-preserving recurrent homeomorphism of the two-sphere which is not the identity is shown to admit exactly two fixed points. A recurrent homeomorphism of a compact surface with negative Euler characteristic is periodic.Comment: 10 pages ...

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.

Fullerenes as adhesive layers for mechanical peeling of metallic, molecular and polymer thin films

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Nanotechnology, 2014
We show that thin films of C60 with a thickness ranging from 10 to 100 nm can promote adhesion between a Au thin film deposited on mica and a solution-deposited layer of the elastomer polymethyldisolaxane (PDMS).

Land use in selected erosion-risk areas of Tertiary low hills in Slovenia

open access: yesActa Geographica Slovenica, 2006
In this article we determine the potential erosion risk of sites with respect to surface morphology and how it is related to the distribution of individual types of land use. We investigated the relationship between relief factors affecting erosion risk (

Dynamical surface structures in multi-particle-correlated surface growths

open access: yes, 2002
We investigate the scaling properties of the interface fluctuation width for the $Q$-mer and $Q$-particle-correlated deposition-evaporation models. These models are constrained with a global conservation law that the particle number at each height is ...

Platonic surface

open access: yesCommentarii Mathematici Helvetici, 1999
If SO is a Riemann surface with a complete metric of finite area and constant curvature -1, let SC denote the conformal compactification of SO. We show that, under the assumption that the cusps of SO are large, there is a close relationship between the hyperbolic metrics on SO and SC. We use this relationship to show that
