Restraining Surface Charge Accumulation and Enhancing Surface Flashover Voltage through Dielectric Coating

open access: yes, 2021
A conductive metallic particle in a gas-insulated metal-enclosed system can charge through conduction or induction and move between electrodes or on insulating surfaces, which may lead to breakdown and flashover.

Investigating the Effect of Metal Particles and Air Gap Defects on the Surface Charge Distribution of Epoxy Resin Using a Modified Capacitive Probe

open access: yesIEEE Access
Metal particle and air gap defects on the surface of insulators can induce localized electric field distortions and exacerbate charge accumulation, subsequently triggering surface flashover.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Surface Charge Transport Characteristics of ZnO/Silicone Rubber Composites Under Impulse Superimposed on DC Voltage

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
Composites with nonlinear conductivity have been applied to modify the direct current (dc) electrical field distribution and accelerate the space charge dissipation in polymeric insulation.

Study on surface charges accumulation characteristics of insulators for ±500 kV DC-GIL based on multi-physics coupling model [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Advances
When a DC voltage is applied externally, a large amount of charge accumulates on the surface of the insulating components in the gas insulated metal-enclosed transmission line (GIL), significantly reducing the flashover voltage along the surface and ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Graphene Oxide Addition With Low Fraction Improving Surface Charge Inhibition Performance of Epoxy/SiC Coating Under DC Stress

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Surface charge accumulation under DC stress is a critical factor in reducing the insulation performance of epoxy-based nanocomposite. Surface coating has been used to inhibit the charge accumulation, but the inhibition mechanism of the coating material ...

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...
