A finite membrane element formulation for surfactants

open access: yes, 2019
Surfactants play an important role in various physiological and biomechanical applications. An example is the respiratory system, where pulmonary surfactants facilitate the breathing and reduce the possibility of airway blocking by lowering the surface ...

Symurban Nanocrystals for Advanced Anti-Pollution Skincare [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Several of most common dermatoses worldwide, e.g., psoriasis and atopic dermatitis, are worsened in their clinical picture when the skin is regularly exposed to an increased air pollution level, e.g., particulate matter.

Fabrication of Magnetite Nanoparticles With Hydrophobic Imidazolium Ionic Liquid for the Efficient Role in Oil Spill Collection

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry
As one of the main environmental obstacles, oil spill causes serious consequences on the environment, fauna, and flora. The traditional methods for cleaning up oil spills were found time-consuming, expensive, and ineffective. Magnetite nanoparticles have

Influence of Green Corrosion Inhibitor based on Chitosan Ionic Liquid on the Steel Corrodibility in Chloride Solution

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2015
Ionic liquids ( ILs) attracted great attention as green corrosion inhibitors for steel in aggressive environments. The present work synthesize new IL using chitosan through amidation and quaternization reaction with oleic acid and p-toluene sulfonic acid,

Study of Foaming Properties and Effect of the Isomeric Distribution of Some Anionic Surfactants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Using different reaction conditions of photosulfochlorination of n-dodecane, two samples of anionic surfactants of sulfonate type are obtained. Their micellar behavior has been already reported and the relationship between their isomeric distribution and

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Methylation biomarkers can distinguish pleural mesothelioma from healthy pleura and other pleural pathologies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed and validated a DNA methylation–based biomarker panel to distinguish pleural mesothelioma from other pleural conditions. Using the IMPRESS technology, we translated this panel into a clinically applicable assay. The resulting two classifier models demonstrated excellent performance, achieving high AUC values and strong diagnostic accuracy.

A New Green Ionic Liquid-Based Corrosion Inhibitor for Steel in Acidic Environments

open access: yesMolecules, 2015
This work examines the use of new hydrophobic ionic liquid derivatives, namely octadecylammonium tosylate (ODA-TS) and oleylammonium tosylate (OA-TS) for corrosion protection of steel in 1 M hydrochloric acid solution.

Micellization of Sliding Polymer Surfactants

open access: yes, 2005
Following up a recent paper on grafted sliding polymer layers (Macromolecules 2005, 38, 1434-1441), we investigated the influence of the sliding degree of freedom on the self-assembly of sliding polymeric surfactants that can be obtained by complexation ...

The removal of thermally aged films of triacylglycerides by surfactant solutions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Thermal ageing of triacylglycerides (TAG) at high temperatures produces films which resist removal using aqueous surfactant solutions. We used a mass loss method to investigate the removal of thermally aged TAG films from hard surfaces using aqueous ...
