Driver Surge Pricing [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Ride-hailing marketplaces like Uber and Lyft use dynamic pricing, often called surge, to balance the supply of available drivers with the demand for rides. We study driver-side payment mechanisms for such marketplaces, presenting the theoretical foundation that has informed the design of Uber's new additive driver surge mechanism.

Surge-type and surge-modified glaciers in the Karakoram [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
AbstractGlaciers in the Karakoram exhibit irregular behavior. Terminus fluctuations of individual glaciers lack consistency and, unlike other parts of the Himalaya, total ice mass remained stable or slightly increased since the 1970s. These seeming anomalies are addressed through a comprehensive mapping of surge-type glaciers and surge-related impacts,

Reducing Melt Surface Turbulence by Employing Surge and Filter in a Conventional Non-Pressurizing Gating System: Simulation and Experiment [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Metallurgy and Materials, 2021
Tensile strength of aluminum castings has been improved by employing surge and filter in a conventional non-pressurizing gating system. For this purpose, three non-pressurizing bottom-gating systems were designed where the first design was a simple ...

A New Quantitative Gait Analysis Method Based on Oscillatory Mechanical Energies Measured near Body Center of Mass

open access: yesSensors, 2022
Human locomotion involves the modulation of whole-body mechanical energy, which can be approximated by the motion dynamics at the body’s center of mass (BCOM).

Improving the computational accuracy of the dynamic electro-geometrical model using numerical solutions

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
The dynamic electro-geometrical model has been applied in various studies to investigate the probability of a lightning strike to parts of a structure. The numerical computation of the dynamic electro-geometrical model (DEGM) follows an iterative step by

Association Between Caseload Surge and COVID-19 Survival in 558 U.S. Hospitals, March to August 2020

open access: yesAnnals of Internal Medicine, 2021
The effect of surges in COVID-19 caseload on COVID-19 survival rates is unclear, especially independent of temporal changes in survival. This retrospective cohort study used data from a large U.S.
