A Computational Method of Rotating Stall and Surge Transients in Axial Compressor

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
The onset of rotating stall and surge in compressors limits the operating range of aero-engines. Accurately predicting the key features during these events is critical in the engine design process.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Unstable Flow Structures Present at Different Rotational Velocities of the Centrifugal Compressor

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
Unstable flow structures cause inevitable energy losses in all power energy systems, including turbomachines. In this study, a set of analyses was conducted with the use of spectral maps on the pressure signals obtained from an industrial centrifugal ...

Investigation of impact of DC component on breakdown characteristics for different electric fields under composite AC & DC voltage

open access: yesHigh Voltage, 2022
The valve side of the converter in the high‐voltage direct current is subjected to mixed voltages such as composite AC & DC voltage. In this study, the effects of the homogeneity of electric field on breakdown voltage were investigated for different ±DC ...

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Obtaining Information about Operation of Centrifugal Compressor from Pressure by Combining EEMD and IMFE

open access: yesEntropy, 2020
Based on entropy characteristics, some complex nonlinear dynamics of the dynamic pressure at the outlet of a centrifugal compressor are analyzed, as the centrifugal compressor operates in a stable and unstable state.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Using Flood Insurance Claims in Coastal CONUS to Evaluate the Impact of Compound Flood Risk

open access: yesWater Resources Research
Compound coastal flooding, resulting from the coincidence of river flood and storm surge, often leads to more severe consequences than either driver alone.

Dynamical system analysis of unstable flow phenomena in centrifugal blower

open access: yesOpen Engineering, 2015
Methods of dynamical system analysis were employed to analyze unsteady phenomena in a centrifugal blower. Pressure signals gathered at different control points were decomposed into their Principal Components (PCs) by means of Singular Spectrum Analysis ...
